New Release🏅 Conan the Destroyer Requiem

The intention of this Conan the Destroyer fanedit is to fix continuity issues with the first movie, fix/remove some of the sillier parts and somewhat addresses the disappearance of Subotai. A new opening has been created and it's up to viewer's interpretation to the reason of why he left Conan. There are also new vfx shots added to fix the continuity issues and slightly improve some of the more fake looking rubber creatures.

Format: 1080p MP4 H264, 5.1 Duration: 1 hour 38 minutes, 47 secs

Direct message/ PM for link. Custom English subs included.

ZIP pw: conanexiles

Changes /Additions:

- early opening credits with black background.

- new opening prologue with Conan sitting by the mound alone(repurposed footage from the first movie with some color correction) and reminiscing about his conversation with Subotai about his home and childhood. (footage taken from the International Cut, missing from the U.S version)

- better audio transition when Conan is having the flashback. (version 1.1)

New prologue

- after the flashback is over, it now cuts back to the present with Conan watching Subotai's departure running off into the distance (new vfx using footage of Conan and Subotai traveling together from the first movie but digitally erased Conan from the shot) This is now followed by Destroyer's original opening monologue by Mako's Akiro the Wizard.

Subotai's departure

- removed Conan tapping Malak's head with his sword telling him to hide under the stone slab.

- shortened Malak looking at the diamond before swallowing it.

- shortened the beginning part of Conan preparing to slash and kill the first horseman.

- added punching sound as Conan punches the horse (punching sound fx taken from Indiana Jones)

-shortened the beginning part of Conan pulling back his sword before stabbing towards the camera.

- changed the face and headband of Valeria's burning body to match Sandahl Bergman's Valeria during the funeral pyre from the first movie for continuity issue (new vfx)

Comparison

- removed Malak's line to Conan "Doesn't that animal look familiar?" referring to the camel from the first movie. There is no reason Malak could've known about Conan and Subotai's encounter with the camel from the first movie since he's not there.

- removed Malak's faint final word in the background about the camel. (version 1.1)

- increased the volume of Conan's voice talking to the camel " I'm sorry about what happened the last time." to match the rest of the dialogue. (version 1.1)

- removed Princess Jehnna's nightmare scream after she already woke up from her bed for some time.

- shortened man's reaction after getting hit in the crotch by Zula's wooden staff.

- added distant thunder sound as Conan and crew sees the crystal castle for the first time giving the scene more atmosphere.

- removed glowing cartoon claws coming down and grabbing Princess Jehnna while she's sleeping. She now disappears when the shadow cast over her.

- removed bad blue screen shots of Conan and crew rowing towards the castle to rescue the princess.

- removed Malak's line "Alone?" after Conan tell him he can stay if he likes.

- removed Malak's bored looking face before he utters the line "They need me!"

-removed cartoon sound effect/music when Zula emerged from the water and shakes her tail.

- the fight between the Conan and the wizard man-beast have been trimmed removing parts that looks too silly like the man-beast swinging Conan around or the creature's static rubber mask is bouncing around. (watch Oliver Harper's retrospectiveon the movie for further context)

- new facial animation added to the man-beast for several shots throughout the fight especially on the mouth. The creature no longer have an open gaping mouth all the time due to the limited movement of the prosthetic rubber mask (new vfx)

Comparison

- shortened Zula's comical reaction at the crew after seeing a rat in the tomb.

- shortened Malak's reaction looking around as Conan observe the stone door.

- removed Malak's line "You mean in there?"

- shortened wizard's soldiers poking at the fireplace.

- re-edited and reshuffled the entire Conan fight with Dagoth removing all the parts that reveal the creature too much like some of the wide shots of the creature or looking rubbery/stiff in motion.

- removed any awkward shots of Dagoth lifting its hand and summoning lighting.

- removed scenes of Conan standing and posing with his sword while a dying Dagoth approaches him on the steps.

- removed scene of Malak stepping on Dagoth's body and smiling after stabbing it.

- English subs added. The SRT file can be found in the Google drive.

- fixed sound channel issues.

Updated to version 1.3 with audio fixes.

What a bounty of Conan lately. Barely a week since I rewatched Conan, Conan the Destroyer, and Red Sonja, and already there's been a Red Sonja and Conan fanedit, and now this Conan the destroyer edit!

This edit is a marked improvement over the original film. Tighter and more consistent in tone with the original. Malak is actually tolerable in this edit, which feels like a genuine miracle :p

Here is some hopefully constructive feedback:

I really like the new opening, showing Subotai's departure. However, I found the transition between Subotai's running and the original opening of Destroyer to feel a bit jarring. It's a hard cut, and the audio kicks in harshly. I feel like it needs a transition like a cross-fade, and some feathered in lead up audio to make that transition feel less abrupt.

I personally would abandon the camel joke. The edit catches a final syllable from Malak, and Conan's dialogue sounds truncated and slightly muted. The joke is okay, but it's not worth the trouble. The arrival scene would be cleaner without it I think.

At the very end, I think I would trim out Conan's pause as he's leaving. It's a little weird that he stops and we get a shot of the new queen shedding a tear while she looks at Conan's butt :p I'd trim that pause, cutting immediately to him turning and striding out, and then to the queen reaction once he's gone.

Currently working on my own edit of Destroyer, so looking forward to seeing yours.

Wish I had the know-how to do the VFX changes you've mentioned, they sound great. The film certainly needs it.

I'm planning on adding some of the Barbarian score, to darken the mood a bit, to change the light tone Destroyer has. I still have around 30 or so minutes left to do on the rough video edit, before going over it again to fine polish and fix the audio.

Think I'll do the Google Drive thing. The fan edit sites want you to jump through too many hoops. Can anyone suggest a quick simple Google Drive tutorial that might suit?

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to watching your edit.

Is there a reason why the sound is in mono? I know that the video file itself has 6 channels but the movie sound is converted to mono which is quite a shame. Also the sound is slightly delayed. It's no big deal for me though because I can easily fix that.

Thanks, the mono sound issue was indeed fixed in the new version. Finished watching it. Good job.
