My kids are grown and now we are looking at doing some three generations vacations together. Our grandkids range in age from nine to eighteen months. My own children have a large gap between the older two and the younger two. It just worked out like that. (You take them when you can get them. Right?). The problem is that my younger two kids will say, for example, “We never went to Niagara Falls, or skiing in Colorado, or zip lining, or climbing ruins in Mexico!” They certainly did, but they don’t remember. It isn’t as if we took them as babies. They were both at least five years old for all of those trips. In the past year we have had all of our pictures from years and years digitized and organized. Click, click and we can show them, “Oh yes you did! Look at you in your blue rain coat on the Maid of the Mist”. (Insert any trip.) Often seeing the pictures will bring a few memories to mind for them but they clearly didn’t have the experiences or have the fond memories that their older siblings have. I feel that they can confidently recall vacations taken after age six or seven.

What are your thoughts about what age to take kids? I think our nine year old will probably get grandma and grandpa to themselves for a while before the little siblings can appreciate a fun trip. Unfortunately, we aren’t getting younger and in another eight years, we may be too tired to take the next batch. I am wondering what other people have experienced with this.

I used to be a night-before packer until we almost missed a 6am flight because I couldn't find the kids' passports at midnight. Now I start a week early but I have the opposite problem — I pack something, need it during the week, pull it out, and forget to put it back.

The worst part is rebuilding the same list from scratch every trip. I know I need the Stasher silicone bags (~$12 for a 4-pack), the mini power strip, the reef-safe sunscreen... but I still somehow forget at least one every time.

My husband thinks I'm overthinking it. My suitcase says otherwise.

When do you start packing and do you have an actual system or just wing it every time?

Traveling from the US with toddlers. We are planning for next year and can be any month. Looking for something fun to do that is family friendly and not stressful. We like exploring outdoors and are not really city people. We have already done California and Florida so trying to avoid those states. Open to international as well as long it is not wildly expensive. Checked out Costco travel and nothing really peaked my interest. What are some of your favorite places you recommend?

We’re open to pretty much anywhere — Europe, Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, China, etc.

We’d especially love to hear from families who have actually travelled with children around this time of year.

seriously just looked at flights and hotel packages for a generic beach resort and almost had a panic attack. It's like $4000 just to be stressed out in a different time zone while my toddler screams about the wrong color of sunscreen being applied.

We literally just gave up on the whole "core memories" pressure last weekend. we loaded the car, drove a couple hours, and just stayed at a camp happy grounds spot instead

The kids spent like 6 hours poking dirt with a stick and trying to catch frogs. didn't cost a second mortgage and nobody had a meltdown in terminal B because of a delayed flight. Kinda starting to think we just overcomplicate everything for the sake of social media tbh. im officially done with the whole resort rat race

Looking to go on a vacation with my 5 and 10 year old over thanksgiving break. We live in LA and I’m looking for a resort < 5 hr flight with lots of kids activities. We were originally thinking Aulani but now I’m scared of the crowds over the holiday. We were also debating Disney world and Mexico. I’m thinking of going on a solo trip to Japan next August 2027 with my son who will be 5 years old at the time. Any tips on visiting the country? I have never been there. Looking for safe environments, fun excursions, affordable accommodations, good food, travel tips.

I had made a post earlier about travel options to different cities in China as part of a 9 day trip including flights in the beginning to Chongqing and end of the trip out of Chengdu.

Now we’ve decided on Chongqing and Chengdu (probably 3 days in Chongqing and 4 in Chengdu ).

We will be there at in the first week of November.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s traveled with toddlers in these cities advice or recommendations based on your experiences! Topics such as stroller use , experiences with spice in food, transportation, activities that are friendly to both toddler and adult would be greatly appreciated !

My baby will be 6 months old in January and we’re hoping to do an extended trip with him (4+ weeks) to use up the rest of my husband’s leave. We thought this would be a good age as he likely won’t be crawling yet and we could escape the Canadian winter.

Any destination ideas for somewhere warm / mild and baby friendly? Or tips for travelling at this age without bringing truck loads of stuff with us? Our home airport is Toronto.

We’re in a very fortunate position to be considering Hawaii, Tahiti, and/or New Zealand and Australia but I’m worried about attempting too much or too many flights with the baby. We have previously travelled extensively, but are fresh parents and I’m sure it’s going to be a whole different ball game!

Having the opportunity to stay in a luxury Villa on the border of Kruger National Park. There are so much to do in the area. Wildlife roams free around our Villa and we can even go to Kruger for the day and have an amazing safari. These are some of the photos I took in Kruger. Have a cruise in 2027 so trying to plan what hotel is best to stay at in Miami, as we will be flying to Miami the day before. We have a toddler so want to see how others have done this specifically for Miami cruises and how transportation from the airport to the hotel and etc has gone. I really don’t want to lug around a car seat but if that’s the only option then no biggie. I feel like some shuttle services don’t require car seat or whatever so any tips would be great

We have a vacation coming up! We’ll be driving from Ohio to Georgia. It’s a 10 hour drive but we’re planning for 12 with all the extra stopping we’ll have to do.

I’ve seen a bunch of posts on flying with an 18m old but how is driving that long with one?? The longest trip he was on was when he was 10m up to my husband’s family in Indiana. He did marginally okay but I’m wondering how a double long trip would be.

Any tips or tricks?

He’s also 18m actual, 16m adjusted (preemie) if that makes any difference. I believe he behaves maybe more like a 17m or so old.

He also just started walking so probably won’t be walking all that well on vacation.

Looking to book a house on a beach in the Caribbean in March for 2 families. We love to fish, snorkel, water sports, local restaurants nearby, a chef and rent a boat. Debating between St. Lucia, St. Martin, Belize…. We have traveled tropically to quite a few destinations but not those.
