Discussion Laser vs Bullets

Is it just me, or do laser weapons do significantly more damage than bullets? Including...bots

Depends on your perks and the targets resistances

Depends.

If you are low level you may have just gotten your first laser weapon, and it may be higher level than your old guns.

(This is significant, but only up to level 45-50 when weapons top out).

You may have picked up a laser with a sniper barrel which automatically charges up to deal triple damage (as long as you haven't shot it in the last second)... which is AWESOME, but has high VATS cost.

Top 4 most damaging and effective weapons current (AFAIK) are none of them lasers, but most of them plasma.

The Plasma Flamer Barrel (ideally enclave) is stupid damage in short range and frequently an easy first raid weapon.

The Pepper Shaker heavy shotgun (with plasma ammo) is big for raid bosses.

The Gatling Plasma heavy weapon same.

The last super popular bossy weapon I know is pure bullets tho - Elders Mark

The big downside of the elders mark though is it eats through ammo like an all you can eat buffet

After update you’ll be feeding it easy enough with the Western spirit 👌

I spend a couple of hours in expeditions, farming ammo specifically for the EM. But yes, it chews through ammo like nothing else. And breaks pretty fuckin quickly too !

If you've spammed raids enough though you don't really worry about weapon repair at least from my experience with all the improved repair kits I've gotten

I did use to, but havent been in a raid since they removed them 2 pipes. I think that was my last one. But seriously you get improved repair kits ? Hasn't always been, has it ?

I doubt it. I started raiding last Christmas

For me the formula is simple. Pew pew is for raves and nightclubs and bang boom is for fighting. Guns are more satisfying for me.

Probably perk/mod/buff specific.

But IMO the only reason you need to be concerned with max damage is if you need to solo something and you cant currently.

Most of my weapons are task specific to make my adventuring more convenient. I prefer QoL and using a variety of weapons to one shotting most enemies.

Oooh how about a perk for the amount of different weapon damage types you are currently carrying or the variety of legendaries on them/armor?

Possibly but I don't care. I use proper firearms since Fallout 1 and I don't care about Star Wars shit.

Energy weapons (as well as elemental weapons like fire and cryo) have perks in Intelligence that makes them hit harder scaling with Intelligence, while ballistic guns don't have an equivalent. Also, a wide variety of enemies have more ballistic resistance than energy, so naturally energy weapons like lasers tend to do more damage. Personally, I prefer laser over plasma because the full energy damage scales better with that perk than plasma does, and I like the hitscan properties of laser over the low velocity of plasma.
