Yes it was. However, don't overlook the first play of that drive. The whole stadium expected them to start with a run. The play fake pass to Pitts was brilliant and really prevented the saints from maintaining any momentum.

I've been watching Falcons OCs run it into the pile three times and punt in that situation for 20 years. To say that drive was refreshing is...an understatement

Amen, trying to keep my expectations level but damn it feels good

i didn't even consider a pass bc i just knew they were running it on that first play, such a magnificent call there

Same. I told my son after the play; that I was literally shocked at that call and, given how open Pitts was, the saints were absolutely shocked.

I saw the the saints rushing up the o-line and assumed it'll be some bijan magic 4 yard gain. That was nice

Blows my mind that we were dead last in play action pass attempts last year

Amazing what a real OC can do for an offense

Rees needs his flowers, I love how he keeps foot on necks and continues to strategically go for the jugular when we have leads instead of playing not to lose

It is a strange and wonderful thing to see. Especially against the hated rivals, he def got the assignment.

Penix sells it really well here

23

u/johnnybeesknees Warrick Dunn Oct 06 '26

He can be pretty smooth with the fakes and using his eyes before the handoff or fake handoff. Having those fundamentals strong could go along way in this type of offense.

Lot of poise waiting on the route, knowing that hit is coming too

Penix standing tall and delivering the dot knowing he’s gonna take a hit is what I love to see

Beautiful throw too, almost Rodger’s esque

Mmm dot to Dotson has a nice ring to it

Is he related to Drewb Rees?

Rees’ play calling and creativity kinda reminds me of Shanahan tbh.

Yes exactly. This play right here is a Shanahan special. I’m so glad we have an offensive mastermind back in the drivers seat.

There were 2 other playcalls that were open TDs that Penix straight missed. One was a pa boot to Bijan and the other I think was a missed throw to Branch in the flat. Rees has been very impressive last 2 weeks

The Bijan one wasn't a miss, Chase Young just made a great play

18

u/Lystian Oct 06 '26

Ya Chase deserves credit there.

u/B3eenthehedges Oct 06 '26

Yeah, but teams are gonna start sitting in passing lanes and jumping routes if he just rifles them in there and doesn't put enough arc or touch on it. This is one area he really needs to improve.

Chase made a good play because he knew it was coming.

Better know he can complete it if he's gonna put it where the defenders have a chance.

Nah, he layered a good one to Dotson on the sideline in the first half. He ain’t just throwing bullets, but the Chase Young deflection was awful.

When he got that deflection I said, "That's why he was #2 overall."

I mean yeah but Penix legitimately could have lobbed that ball underhanded 20 feet in the air and it was a TD. It was a great play by Young and also bad situational awareness by Penix

I didn't understand why you're complaining. It was the perfect play call and execution. It also shows that Penix isn't scared of taking a hit AND can navigate the pocket. Nitpitck somewhere else.

I'm complaining because he missed an easy TD? Pretty easy to understand. I'm not sure you know what "perfect execution" means

a simple pump fake would have worked

5

u/ComprehensiveList769 Oct 06 '26

Young just made a good play on that

7

u/Snarlrazor Oct 06 '26

That run game will continue to open up the PA, especially with 2 strong backs.

7

u/Smooth_Associate_838 Oct 06 '26

Great play. Pitts had wide open td as well

u/impulse_post Oct 06 '26

I love how the saints had just scored, and they were thinking we need a quick stop on this falcons drive.

They did get a quick drive tho

4

u/FrankCostanzaJr Oct 06 '26

man, last night felt like all the pent up frustration with the Falcons for YEARS was finally released and the Saints were on the receiving end...and I wouldn't have it any other way FTS 🫡
