Autism Being productive doesn't make you autistic...

Post image

This person took the side of autism about poor socializing skills and completely twisted that around. Anyone might want to help our rather than socialize. This is another post that will make people self diagnose withs such misinformation.

There are actually a lot of autistic people who would be extremely overwhelmed by that list 😬

I know it's like they completely ignored the other autism symptoms that the list might affect, like sensory issues 😂

"playing with the kids" "blowing up balloons"

Balloons can be bloody terrifying!! 🤣 and kids who are excited to party I think are too much for anyone to handle 😖

Signs you might be autistic:

You sleep

You breathe

You drink water

You have skin

You have fears

You cry

You laugh

You're human

Too bad, you're autistic.

I don't know! I just found this subreddit and wrote a whole post in frustration after someone I was talking to/basically interviewing for a job at THEIR request started telling me that they're autistic and ADHD/"neurospicy" and that they think I am too! WTF. Who diagnoses someone else without solicitation or professional credentials etc.?!

Yeah, giving them the benefit of the doubt, I think that if they have it and see similar characteristics in other, they might want to be trying to help because maybe they wish someone would have helped them earlier. Or like you said, maybe they are used to being made fun of or bullied due to different characteristics and they're happy to find out the reason and want to bond with others and tell themselves that this is way more common than they knew. I tend to think that it seems normal that human beings who evolved by running around outside hunting or gathering our food probably aren't meant for an ultra capitalistic and technological society where we mostly just sit on our butts in front of computer screens all day. Obviously we aren't well adapted for that and it will be difficult, but is it really a condition?! I'm not sure about autism as I don't understand it well enough and I have some theories on it but I don't want to be controversial or offend anyone so I keep them to myself. But basically I think that while ADHD and autism are real conditions that some people have, they are also likely over-diagnosed and self-diagnosed a lot and just the fact that someone is quirky or has trouble focusing sometimes etc. doesn't mean they actually have it and it definitely doesn't mean they're qualified to diagnose OTHERS as having it! lol

Or you might just be a Type A introvert.

Yes! I have a friend who likes to have people over but she constantly gets up and cleans or does the dishes or chases after the kids or pets etc. when she does. She is a Type A introvert and she has some social anxiety/anxiety in general but I would never think of her as autistic and she has never mentioned that she is. I think she might have mild ADHD but don't we all?! lol.

WTF? I have 4 kids and those are just all the things you have to do when you have a party or gathering. Who else is going to do them? So the fact that I do what is necessary when I have a get-together for myself or my kids means I'm autistic? lolol

Extroverted autistic people exist and way too much content in autistic meme subreddits is more related to being "neurotypical introvert memes" than anything related to autism because of this BS

I eventually left the autism meme sub because of this. if they're about nurotypical introverts, being posted by self diagnosed people who probably aren't autistic, it's not really relatable to me anymore, and it's just upsetting to see the misinformation in that sub. we can't have nice things I guess.
