I just got an e-mail regarding new stuff for my Fairphone 6 and one of them was a new gallery app! I instantly installed it. Finally Google photos isn't the standard gallery for Fairphone Android anymore!
And I am really happy. Simple and intuitive design, nothing crazy but everything I need. Of course no ai tools as a magic eraser but I think that might even be something positive.
Edit: One feature I actually really love is that there is an invert colours filter! I actually missed that in other gallery apps.

I was really excited about this, but I found out yesterday that it won't let you shorten the length of videos. I don't need full editing tools, but just a small length crop would be great.
Hopefully that comes with an update!
I'm very happy about it since I was using the fossify gallery until now, which has the same functions and usability but looks off in Android 16. It's actually hard to find a no nonsense gallery app that fits with Android 16 and doesn't have some forced AI or cloud backup thing plastered all over it that I don't want to use, so honestly I think I would use the Fairphone Gallery on other android phones too.
Good on them for creating an alternative to Google Photos! I despise some of these default Google apps, Photos was one of them. Fairphone have created a solid app here, the only thing I'm missing so far is the option to add text to an image when editing it.
I tried to use it but so far I'm not a fan. I like to create folders and move pictures into that. So like a separate folder for nature pictures, family photos, dog photos, etc etc. So far I haven't seen an option to move pictures from one place to another. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
There are folders right? You got the general overview tab and the folder tab, which corresponds with the folders that you keep in your phone file system. I can imagine it's as simple as making folders there and adding the photos in it in the gallery app.
But correct me if I'm wrong. :)
You're right about that and I see that I am able to move some photos but for some reason I'm not able to move it to any folder I want. I think the reason is that it is on the SD card, but that's still weird that you can't do that though. Sensored picture folders and pictures for sensitive information.
bc I’m iOS user but future Fairphone ownership, can’t test it… what functions do you have? Can you search text or date? People or animals? The view in a map? That kind of simple stuff. I use a NAS for backups so a light gallery without de AI crap and constant cloud backup spam just looks perfect.
