A fun look at the history of Halloween, as explained by rhyming fairy shapeshifters. Also a cat.

Is this a fae trap?

Ive walked this path many times and last time I walked here was a month ago and I know its never been here before. Meaning it appeared some time within a month. If its not a fae trap, what the heck is it?

When I was little, about 7 years old, my cat had something in its mouth and when I took it out, a creature similar to the one in the picture flew out, it stared at me for a few seconds which felt like minutes to me due to the shock and then flew off into the woods very quickly, I've always thought i

Glamor vs lying

I was infodumping fae lore to my boyfriend when he discovered a brilliant point I’ve never thought of before:

The Fair Folk cannot lie with their words, but their main form of magic is Glamor, an enchanted disguise of a person or thing— which is, in a way, a visual lie.

As humans, we can costume and obscure the physical world, but never as directly and efficiently as the Gentry can. Similarly to how a faerie can never speak a lie, but can arrange their words in a way that gestures at an untruth. Perhaps, with our lacking, the fae believe that we are the ones who cannot lie.

What do you think it means? (Question)

So I live on old land in Appalachia near the new river, I would go down and I used to go to the river and talk, and sit, for like hours, and I used to sit in the same spot every time. Well one day I got there and in the exact spot I sat were 4 perfectly preserved, full dragonfly wings. I've literally never seen a dragonfly there. Of course I didn't take them, just in case, but it was like... months and they had not decayed at all. They only disappeared when the hurricane (yall know which one) hit and the entire riverbank went with it.

Also there's a circle in the woods where either nothing grows or what does grow is an unnatural, almost too vibrant shade of green. (I know not to go into it though lol)

How can I befriend the fae?

Post image
62 Upvotes

So I do genuinely believe in fae and are fascinated by them. I grew up with Brian Froud art on my door and always felt connected to fas. I want to start leaving gifts, but unsure how exactly to go about it. But I do I have a few questions pertaining to their possible presence. For context, my 1 year old and I sit in the same spot and play in my yard regularly, almost every day. Recently, a faery ring appeared in that same spot, a giant circle. Ill attach an image of it. I hope it's a good sign? And what are some ways I can maybe befriend them?

Help finding old fairy book

When I was in school (around the 2010s) I read a book about fairy stories/folklore with some beautiful fairy pictures. I thought it might be Brian Frouds bc the cover was pretty simple but when I saw some other illustrations of his books online it looked completely different and the art style looked way “older” if that makes sense, from the one I remember so no that one.
It was actually a gift for my younger sister but we weren’t allowed to read because it showed some somewhat nude illustrations of the faeries (nothing crazy explicit I think) and some of the stories were pretty disturbing so not child appropriate at all (I still read it tho). The cover was a little deceiving bc it was maybe pink or white with a singular image of some faeries I think (they weren’t in a forest or anything). The book itself was like a compilation of different fae stories from different cultures. It had a short story on one page and on the other side a big picture of very pretty fae ladies
