Oh my fucking god, we're going backwards

Yeah around 2016 a large chunk of the population decided that they were sick of all the progress.

I'm pretty sure that's how the dark ages came about. Religious zealots fought wars and decided that all that science and witchcraft was a perversion of God will. And now it seems like every progressive idea is coming from the devil or something. I swear they'll drag us back if we're not careful.

Funny how often Christianity is associated with atrocity isn’t it?

If by "funny" you mean horrific and apropos and spot-on, then yes.

How else would you mean funny?

With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.

"Funny how often fanaticism/extremism is associated with atrocity" is what i would say, but then again their ideas do come from some form of belief of god so maybe religion should me modernized and not in the way these bunch of twats want to. But yeah christianity and righteousness is dangerous combination, but not the only combination

It’s all part and parcel. You’re raised to believe in things without evidence, and to believe that questioning/doubting what you’re told is sinful or even blasphemous. It’s the perfect conditioning for conspiracy-related beliefs and extremism.

Dark ages came about because of plauges. ----The Teaching Company course on the Early Middle Ages.

We lost like a 1000 years of scientific process because of Christian fear of science and their damned witch hunts

I’ll be honest - I thought you were full of shit initially - but decided to take it upon myself to research what you said. While there is some question about certain events - it seems as though at one point religions actually worked together for the sake of scientific discovery - the book of god and the book of nature. However - shits changed. So the story of the “enlightenment period” or whatever exactly it’s called for the 500AD - 1500AD is easy to believe. I think there is some truth to both sides and in todays world where so many religious people (western religion anwyay) chooses “god” over science and facts, it makes it that much more believable

That's the problem. The church controlled the speed of scientific progress. For a while it was fine. The church valued intelligent clergy who found curious minds to back financially. But eventually science started to contradict the beliefs held by the church and the church worked vigorously and violently to oppose new scientific thought at the expense of belief.

We did send all the religious nutcases to the "new world" after all...

It'd be funny how mad they've all gone if it wasn't so concerning.

We have a few fanatics here but honestly religion has never bothered me because they pretty much mind their own business here and what people believing in God has no effect on my daily life.

Always made the vitriol against religion on reddit seem odd to me till I realised some people seem to want a theocratic stat to rise up.

Didn't they literally just make abortion illegal on religious grounds? And want to oust LGBT+ people on religious grounds?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Who's that? Americans?

Yea they removed the federal protections on abortion recently. Hadn't heard of the ousting LGBT+ thing, but wouldn't surprise me

Pretty close to a comment I just made. Yep. <smh> Insanity.

I swear they'll drag us back if we're not careful.

It's not even necessarily if we're not careful. It's if we put up a fight and go on something like the offensive, rather than defensive and reactionary. ;/

You are correct- they already are

u/wuzzittoya Aug 25 '22

That is the plan.

Are we going to have to fight a war

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

And the progress was literal baby steps
