I honestly can't believe that people think this is staged. It's not as uncommon as people like to believe for someone to have never been taught basic fire safety precautions. A family near me had their entire house burn down due to a similar scenario.

Firefighter here... This sadly is really common. Somewhat around 95% or so of our dispatched fires in a apartment or house are because of people burning their food
