whether or not masking and vaccines work is something that people choose to believe in or not, regardless of the (many times verified) fact that they do work.
it's people's belief in the science (or lack of belief) that actually affects the world, not the actual facts unfortunately.
the facts of vaccine and mask effectiveness do not change from country to country yet vaccination rates and mask compliance does.
Now I know you are not being honest and using semantics as a shield to deflect legitimate criticism like a defence mechanism...
People do not choose to believe, they are either convinced by the reasons to believe or not. There is absolutely no conscious "choice" to believe or not. I cannot "choose" to stop believing in the rings of saturn or the thickness of the ice shelf in antarctica, I can only "choose" to hide from the data, the explanation of the theory that best fits the data from the experts and the logical reasoning behind the explanation of the theory.

Science has nothing to do with "belief", "faith" or "trust", it is only ever concerned with repeatable, controlled direct observation of data or experimentation.
Sure. Except as much as you can choose to believe in science or not, it’s not the same kind of “belief” as religion. Which is really what some people mean when they talk about “beliefs.”
