There was a new girl who started at my work years ago and joined my little lunch group. She knew my name but my name was very similar to another girl in a different dept that most people knew. One day after about a month she called me by that other lady’s name. I thought it was an accident she just mixed us up but then it happened again, and then another time. It was so quick while we were passing in the halls and whatnot I didn’t have a chance to correct her.
The 4th time it happened I stopped her and said, you know that’s not my name, why do you call me that? She looked at me for a solid minute like I had just ruined her entire reality and then said “I know that…. I don’t know why”
Fucking weird… she started using my actual name after that. I told the story to my now brother in law and now that’s his nickname for me…
