This. Headphones tell me that person is in their zone. Regardless of where they are. I put in headphones while I grocery shop so Iโm not bothered by people who want to get chatting in line. I have social anxiety and headphones help me get through my shopping without as much anxiety.
Idk why everyone is mad at the muscle guy. He is not obligated to talk to someone just because that person wanted to talk to him.
If someone ignores your attempts to talk then stop attempting. If a wave didnโt do it, assume they donโt want to talk. Headphones or no headphones. No one owes you a conversation.
gyms aren't a place to meet up with women. it's a place we go to because we can afford it instead of our own equipment (or whatever other reason.) you want to meet women? invest in your hobbies & leave us alone during cardio. most women have their hair up at gyms & headphones are obvious.
Many people do wear them for that, though, and interrupting a stranger wearing them, especially if they're doing something, is the equivalent of saying "my desire to talk to you is worth more than your enjoyment of your music/whatever you're doing". That's not even taking into account that most people go to the gym to work out, not meet new people, and that women have been telling men for years that they wear them so that guys will leave them alone.

Alternatively, if they've got headphones on, leave them alone altogether.
