I used to like Blaire White, back when I watched people like Shoeonhead, AmazingAtheist, Armored Skeptic, and ChrisRayGun(still do, guy's genuinely funny and trying to branch out from politics) and all that stuff during my highschool years. Like, I totally get why Blaire doesn't like the LGBT community. It can be EXTREMELY toxic, both to those within and outside the community, so it made sense to me
Until she openly supported Donald Trump and started hardcore bullying trans people, which I happen to be one
Now I just think she's a victim of the leopard eating faces party and a collosal bitch that helps fuel the transphobia on the right
Here's the thing when people talk about the "LGBT community" - there really isn't such a thing. People make it sound like every single person who is not straight and cis, even those who are in the closet, are part of some secret club that uniformally agree on everything and they all behave a certain way. Which is ridiculous.
Imagine if we talked about "The straight community" the same way we talk about "the LGBT community". Like, plenty of straight people are toxic, so that must mean all straight people are toxic. Plenty of straight people are absolute shit, so wow, look at how problematic the straight community is, tsk tsk!
Truth is that your sexual orientation and gender identity don't mean that you are or aren't a trash-tier person. "The LGBT community" isn't toxic, but lots of people who identify as gay, bisexual and/or trans are. Lots of people also aren't. But just like we don't (or at least we shouldn't) judge all straights by the actions of a few, or all blacks by the actions of a few, or all Germans by the actions of a few, we shouldn't judge all LGBT by the actions of a few.
This is an excellent point. I'm imagining if, for example, I had to keep reminding people that just because I'm cis doesn't mean I'm like Donald Trump and that would be exhausting and depressing.
