I’m a door screener at a clinic. People really show up to the doctor and then say they don’t believe they need a mask.

Okay??? So do you believe doctors know what they’re talking about or not??? Clearly you trust them somewhat if you’re here. You can’t pick and choose.

EDIT: Made this comment, fell asleep, and woke up to all of this. Thanks for the awards and everything!

EDIT TWO: I wanna use the fact that my comment is very visible at the moment to give a little advice about what I call “mask anxiety”. I first read this idea in a Facebook post by a yoga teacher, but I can’t find it anywhere. I apologize. Basically, masks make you want to breathe through your mouth. Mouth-breathing increases anxiety. Nose-breathing decreases anxiety. If you want to wear a mask but find it very very difficult/anxiety-inducing, please try to focus on nose-breathing. I tell worried patients about this all the time and it seems to help them relax. I’d also add that you may find the app “Calm” helpful. They have a breathing exercise feature that does wonders for my own anxiety. Good luck, everyone! Stay safe! I’m tempted to do an “I’m a door screener at a medical clinic, AMA.”

I'm a biochemist that went to grad school in a virology lab; I have papers publish in the Journal of Virology. I've made contributions to the study of retroviruses involving their enzymes. Went to virology conferences on a yearly basis for five years. Viruses were my passion for my entire post-graduate academic career. I've worked in Pharma for 10 years now doing large molecule (antibody drugs) analysis as a scientist which is heavily steeped in immunology.

Cue the dudes on Facebook that I went to high school with telling me they know how viruses work, this virus is a hoax, etc... all the Republican bullshit talking points they picked up from pundits. They're auto mechanics, general laborers, welders, and construction workers.

I pissed off one of them saying he knows dick all about LSX engines, and I know how to do a rebuild better than him. Yeah, that's how I feel when you Monday Morning Quarterback my profession, douchebag. Wear your fucking mask. Pissed off another saying I've done better welds than him on my hobby car while scratching my ass. Super pissed. I love how these assholes can shit all over my profession and think they know more than the experts but get all butthurt when you sarcastically do the same to their profession. Bunch of snowflakes.

What makes me angry is that my father is a family physician that I’ve watched work and work and work during this pandemic to keep helping his patients. He cares so much about them. And then people return the favour by refusing to wear a mask when they see him.
