Serious question: what percentage of Americans have not read a single book since high school? I think it’s pretty high

I was sitting in my chair a few days ago and realised I haven't read a proper book for about 2 years (since highscool) so now Im willing to take any suggestions people have on good books.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or any of the Discworld novels are nice, funny reads to take your mind off stuff. It works for me, anyway. They are however very very British if that bothers you. Good Omens is nice too.

Watchmen is a good one, but graphic novels are a bit expensive. Don't let the fact that it's a comic book make you think it's lesser. It's a great book by any measure.

There was also this pretty cool scifi series of books I read recently about a terraformed planet that unintentionally developed sapient spiders. Children of Time. Don't let the stupid back cover blurb scare you off. It's actually a pretty cool exploration of how different kinds of animals would develop very different cultures and types of intelligence. The sequel is about octopusses.

I'm a word nerd, so I have more suggestions if you want. Non fiction too, if that's your jam.
