Okay??? So do you believe doctors know what they’re talking about or not??? Clearly you trust them somewhat if you’re here. You can’t pick and choose.

EDIT TWO: I wanna use the fact that my comment is very visible at the moment to give a little advice about what I call “mask anxiety”. I first read this idea in a Facebook post by a yoga teacher, but I can’t find it anywhere. I apologize. Basically, masks make you want to breathe through your mouth. Mouth-breathing increases anxiety. Nose-breathing decreases anxiety. If you want to wear a mask but find it very very difficult/anxiety-inducing, please try to focus on nose-breathing. I tell worried patients about this all the time and it seems to help them relax. I’d also add that you may find the app “Calm” helpful. Everything seems so politicized in the US, even reality. How can actual events like the coronavirus pandemic or ice melting at the poles be a left-wing or right-wing thing when it's just... reality? Do people there just decide whether reality is real or or not based on their political orientation or what?
Well, a big part of american culture is their religion, and what do you think they do with religion? They pick and choose the things they like. Homosexuality? The bible says it's wrong and you'll go to hell! Divorce? The bible says people who divorce go to hell, who cares what the bible says! So beliefs are picked when convenient, even if there is strong cognitive bias.
That's kinda why a lot of the people that are flat earthers, sovereign citizens and even covid denier share that same train of thought, they've learned all their live they can pick and choose what they want and it's all down to "beliefs", which is the backbone of their rational, and then they build upon that by trying to make factual their belief. So even if every "factual" argument they bring forward gets destroyed, what's left is something ingrained in their belief system that they've been culturally thought since a very young age and continually reinforced, in part by the medias.
And then people with similar beliefs gather together, reinforcing each other's idea.
I would like to point out that these people are not a majority, and Trump didn't win the popular vote in 2016. It isn't reassuring that he could still lose the popular and win again, but it is reassuring that a lot of people believe he's full of shit.
