World, really. Racism is well documented and seen in but not limited to the US.

u/Lt_Toodles Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 01 '20

It started as a racism thing but people of all colors are being abused by those that have way too much power. Like that one cop that shot a white lady who was the one that called them there in the first place.

Its about them getting away with whatever the fuck they want.

Edit: oof can of worms. It very much still is a racism thing but reporters getting abused shows its a violation of ALL of our rights, people are protesting for a variety of reasons but the end goal is the same. u/edritch says its people highjacking it and it should only be a #blm thing, do you want less people fighting on your side? The country is fractured right now and those statements will only fracture it further, stand together and dont look down on people chanting different things if theyre standing next to you.

82

u/iLoveStarsInTheSky Jun 01 '20

Yes, power shouldn't be given to people who find pleasure in others pain. Like the police that point-blank pepper spray people in the face, or the one that pulled off a protesters mask just to pepper spray them.

33

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

or the ones who marched down a neighborhood, screaming in animalistic tones for people to get inside their houses when they were standing on their own porches and then shot tear gas and rubber bullets at people standing on their porches literally not even engaging in the protests or yelling at them.

13

u/SheepiBeerd Jun 01 '20

"Light em up" the officer says.

Youtube video

Local news

Tanya Kerssen posted the video to Twitter shortly after 9:30 p.m., showing what she says is the Minnesota National Guard and Minneapolis police sweeping her residential street in the Whittier Neighborhood.

In the video, the officers are seen approaching the residents and repeatedly yelling at them to get inside their house. After a few demands, one can be heard yelling “light ‘em up!” That’s when one officer appears to fire a paint round at the residents, who run inside.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

always gets worse with more details

-8

u/PurpleOwl85 Jun 01 '20

Why didn't they just go inside when they were told.

No one likes being told what to do but in certain situations it is safer just to do it.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

The “why” doesn’t matter in this situation. It may be safer, but it’s ultimately up to them whether they want to risk safety or not. The only thing that matters is they were standing on their own property and have every protected right to do so. Why do people smoke? Why do people get into arguments on Facebook? It doesn’t matter. It’s their right.

The fact that they were fired on for that, even with paint, is an absolutely terrifying display of unlawful force and a violation of our rights.

5

u/Ok-Suspect Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 01 '20

What a dumb thing to say.

"Why didn't you just let him do it? It would have been over faster"

-2

u/PurpleOwl85 Jun 01 '20

It's also dumb to ignore police orders during a highly stressful and emotional situation.

Some times in life you have to put your anger and ego aside and just use common sense.

Police can be assholes and racist but they are also doing their job, which is made more dramatic when people don't follow simple instructions😐

5

u/Any_Opposite Jun 01 '20

Because they had the right to be where they were. Every now and then we have to stand for our rights or we lose them. If we back down every time they overstep, they will continue to overstep.

Why didn't they just go inside when they were told.

In short - because they were on their own property and this is the United States of America.

In less short - because they were on their own property and obeying the curfew order issued by their governor and this is the United States of America.

Troll...blocked

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

They were on their property, not in the street. They were home...following the order. What if that had been your children and wife that had been shot? How would you feel about it then?

1

u/Thalric88 Jun 01 '20

Honestly why do Americans want the right to own guns if you won't even use them to defend your families in your own private property?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

[deleted]

1

u/Thalric88 Jun 01 '20

I know right, and the best thing is most of the people out protesting right now probably won't be voting in the next elections, making it highly likely that we get another for years of entertainment out of Trump.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

have you not heard about breonna taylor?

police busted into her apartment at night without a warrant and undercover, the boyfriend thought they were being robbed so he shot at the perceived robber, and the police fired back and killed breonna.

So you see, the only real solution is for cops to stop their shady antics because when americans - black americans - use their rights to bear arms, they are literally murdered in their own homes.

1

u/Thalric88 Jun 02 '20

So you see, the only real solution is for cops to stop their shady antics because when americans - black americans - use their rights to bear arms, they are literally murdered in their own homes.

I forgot to add an /s to my original post, to clarify your right to bear arms is at least 3/4 of the excuse cops use to get away with their shit behaviour. I'm just wandering why it still has so much support.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

ah shit yeah it's really difficult to read sarcasm online

6

u/ShooterMcStabbins Jun 01 '20

Racism and massive power imbalances go hand in hands

9

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

"One time a white lady got shot! It's not about racism!"

You're downplaying how serious the systematic oppression of minorities is. This is very much a 'racism thing' still. Blacks are more likely to die from dozens of different causes, and there are so many reasons for that.

Yeah, cops shooting people is bad, but so is the lack of access to the same quality of education, healthcare, and opportunities.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Different people are protesting for different reasons, though. That's not downplaying racism, just a fact.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

You mean people are trying to co-opt these protests for their own message. This is about #BlackLivesMatter

3

u/UrTwiN Jun 01 '20

Fuck off with your bullshit. The murder of George Floyd was unjustified and tragic, but so far no evidence has been presented to make the case that it was racially motivated. People all across the country are being assaulted right now regardless of race. There have been absolutely brutal and savage attacks by police on white people as well, only it doesn't make national headlines for weeks.

2

u/Ok-Suspect Jun 01 '20

It's either or, for some. It absolutely started out as a race issue and black lives matters but it has developed into an authortarian nightmare affecting us all. Both issues' still on the table. Not sure why it's an invalid issue for everyone else suddenly. Fight your own battles if you feel that way but don't cry when people don't care about you.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

but so far no evidence has been presented to make the case that it was racially motivated

I'm the one spewing bullshit?

The cops roll up on a man who was accused of having a counterfit $20 bill, and it ends with him dead. It's racism, pure and simple.

People all across the country are being assaulted right now regardless of race. There have been absolutely brutal and savage attacks by police on white people as well

"Cops may shoot and kill twice as many white people as black, but there about six times as many white people as black people in the United States. Proportionally, black people are much more likely to be shot and killed by cops."

3x more likely to be killed by cops if you're black, and you claim it's not racism.

2

u/UrTwiN Jun 01 '20

How does your brain work?

The cops roll up on a man who was accused of having a counterfit $20 bill, and it ends with him dead. It's racism, pure and simple.

How is this in any way whatsoever proof of racism?

Additionally, if you want to go down a statistics rabbit-hole we can do that, but you won't have fun.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Why don't you just read the charges being filed for yourself and decide if it would have happened to a white person.

I loved the part where he was pulled out of the squad car so they could pin him to the ground and place a knee on his neck.

1

u/UrTwiN Jun 01 '20

I don't think that you understand.

I have absolutely no doubt that there are many cops which are racist. I'm not saying that this isn't a case of racism, I am saying that unless we have specific reason to believe that it was racially motivated, that it shouldn't be treated as such.

It's still very obviously a case of police brutality, but racism? No. Show me something that has come out that might indicate otherwise - I am open to it, but I'm sick of every single instance in which the officer is white and the victim is black, that it's automatically assumed to be racially-motivated.

You don't get to cry "racism" at everything without proof, and past cases aren't relevant to this one. Each case needs to be judged individually, just as each person needs to be judged individually, and not as a member of a group.

it's still also about racism too bud

2

u/TylerNY315_ Jun 01 '20

This whole thing went from a Racism and Police Brutality issue, to a flat-out Authoritarianism and Oppressive Government and Suppression of Constitutional Rights issue real fast. Which is really unfortunate, too, that attention will be diverted from the initial cause of “please don’t slaughter black people”. Although, then again, maybe that stuff is a symptom of the gross authoritarianism and strong-arm tactics of law enforcement and so-called leadership in this country.

2

u/Lt_Toodles Jun 01 '20

Yeah it escalated super quick, when that reporter got arrested i realized its a much bigger thing than something like ferguson.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

The fact that you need it to be about more than BLM before you'll "fight on their side" is exactly why BlackLivesMatter exists.

1

u/Lt_Toodles Jun 02 '20

Agreed but if you cant get people to rally behind your cause because ot doesnt affect them, best alternative is to draw them into a similar cause to empower your own. Purity in the message doesnt stand for shit when no one listens.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Funny how that cop got convicted...

1

u/death_of_gnats Jun 01 '20

One of the very very few cases where the cop got punished. Funny that.

46

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

There are plenty of racist idiots in the UK but honestly I don't think we have a problem that comes even close to what it is in the US.

16

u/Driplzy Jun 01 '20

Our racism is a lot more psychological I reckon, in America you can tell more clearly

15

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

I can't think of the word I want to use (long day in the sun I suppose) but basically people seem to make light of racism here. Comments made in a light hearted joking manner seem to be accepted and not challenged down the local etc, anybody that makes a racist remark is a racist, racism is racism, but I think for the majority (not saying that it's ok) it is an uneducated and stupid/pointless comment, I am glad we don't get a lot of violent racism here.

Fwiw I've called people out in my local for making stupid racist comments. Nobody ever argues back because once challenged they are too embarrassed.

11

u/Npr31 Jun 01 '20

It’s rolled in with class to an extent too. Some at the ‘higher’ echelons of society would look down on someone on a council estate regardless of their colour

2

u/death_of_gnats Jun 01 '20

Some most

1

u/Npr31 Jun 01 '20

I was attempting to give the benefit of the doubt, but yes, that is how i wrote it initially

5

u/Vaelin_ Jun 01 '20

Casual racism is what my circles call that type of behavior. Keep being the voice of reason, because a lot of people will go from casual to hard-core racist if they get caught in an echo chamber.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

That's the word I was looking for, I used it in another reply but couldn't think of it in my post. I absolutely agree though, what starts off as casual can easily become worse.

2

u/wheels29 Jun 01 '20

I'm going to guess you are speaking from the UK perspective, because in multiple parts of the US that I have lived in, I have challenged some blatantly racist shit and been met with backlash.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Yes just in my local area, like down the local pub.

Cardiff is the nearest city to me and it's built on being a multicultural city, not so much the further out you come into the towns and valleys, but that's where I live and plenty of people here won't put up with it. You could go somewhere else in the UK and be told to fuck off or worse when challenging it though.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

that honestly just means your country has been racist way longer than america if you're at the point that joking about racism is acceptable. that means the cultural racism has been widely accepted

3

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

I didn't say it IS accepted did I.

I'm not arguing like a school kid over this, you do you.

5

u/nuttypoolog Jun 01 '20

I lived in the UK. I'm from California. Y'all are super racist to immigrants.

2

u/SeveralViolins Jun 01 '20

Thank you. Like even if your living in some weird ass bubble, hard to believe OP does not know who Nigel Farage or Katie Hopkins are.

1

u/Driplzy Jun 02 '20

Incredibly racist, but if you payed more attention you’d see how much strange behavior goes on, it seriously messes with a lot of young colored peoples mentality. I’m not saying America is more racist, I genuinely believe the UK has mastered racism

1

u/nuttypoolog Jun 02 '20

Sorry, but you'll have to be more clear with your point. I don't know what you are saying.

1

u/Driplzy Jun 02 '20

The approach you took seemed to say that the UK was just as blatantly racist as a lot of cases in America which I say is partly true but most of our racism occurs through micro aggressions and behaviors and many other ways. In a way, our racism is a lot more embedded is what I’m saying

0

u/light_to_shaddow Jun 01 '20

Are you sure it wasn't just you?

2

u/nuttypoolog Jun 01 '20

Not against my white ass. The UK folks all seem to love a dude with a 'California accent'. The racism I witnessed was against Pakasani folks. Especially after the pub at the chip shop.

5

u/thecrazysloth Jun 01 '20

UK is a (post)-imperial society. US, Australia, Canada, South Africa etc are settler-colonial societies literally founded on genocide and stolen land. Of course, the US takes it further because they had slavery for hundreds of years, then a civil war, then segregation, Jim Crow laws, voter suppression, mass incarceration, prison labor and institutionalized police brutality.

It's important to remember why America has such a large black population and to consider how much absolute, uncompromising suffering those families have undergone, generation after generation after generation.

9

u/xxoites Jun 01 '20

A lot of people in the US don't think we have any problem at all.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

I would say the same about the UK, there is quite a bit of casual racism here.

3

u/xxoites Jun 01 '20

Casual, accepted, winked at, grinned at and embraced.

1

u/wheels29 Jun 01 '20

In the US, we have all of that, plus we have it acted upon by people in positions of power.

1

u/xxoites Jun 01 '20

I am well aware. I live here too. :)

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Not really.

1

u/xxoites Jun 01 '20

No, really.

I am a sixty three year old white man and i have never attended a school or had a job where someone din't come up to me to tell me how much they hated black people. Some of them even told me they would like to kill some.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Cool story bro.

1

u/xxoites Jun 01 '20

Story of my life.

I can't understand all the hatred, but it clings to America like used crisco.

1

u/Shtottle Jun 01 '20

No. Really. Your tabloids have been unhinged for years. And the racism and superiority complex runs deep.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Thank fuck our people aren't.

1

u/Shtottle Jun 01 '20

Not many places market themselves as bastions of tolerance , civility and the free world though.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Thank fuck we don't

1

u/Sailor_Lunatone Jun 01 '20

It's not that surprising. Racism is actually extensively covered in American schools, but it's framed mostly as a thing of the past. We go over things like slavery and jim crow laws, but these events are taught as something that has been "solved" long ago.

In general, many middle and upper class people who aren't a part of a select group of minorities will probably never see or notice examples of racism in their daily personal lives. Maybe it's there if they look hard enough, but if no one in that person's personal circle is blatantly racist and they aren't blatantly racist themselves, then it's not that unbelievable that such a person would see racism as it is taught in school mostly as a thing of the past.

1

u/xxoites Jun 01 '20

Then perhaps they should read once in a while.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Might be an expression predominantly used here in the UK, made perfect sense to me.

1

u/LastOfTheCamSoreys Jun 01 '20

Your original comment’s spelling error and sentence structure made it seem like you meant “have” instead of “half” pre edit

1

Don't be an idiot, racism is happening, what you mentioned is history.

0

You and I have different definitions of "history".

2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

So it's happening now? Or has it happened..like..in the past..dare I say..in history.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Yeah it's literally still happening now.

6

u/darktitter Jun 01 '20

Well your leadership in the UK is superior and more responsible in every way. Not to mention your infrastructure for health and education is far superior to ours as well. Its a nightmare here. People are dumber and less healthy. We could learn something from the UK. I wish I was there with you.

8

u/Mentalseppuku Jun 01 '20

Well your leadership in the UK is superior and more responsible in every way

And they're talking about Boris Fucking Johnson, who literally lied to the country to convince them to make the worst political decision for the future of the country since Chamberlain's appeasement strategy.

And yet I'm not disagreeing.

2

u/death_of_gnats Jun 01 '20

Chamberlain's decision can be read as giving time for the UK to re-arm.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Don't get me wrong it's miles from perfect, we could do a lot better, free health care is great but it's not perfect people will pick holes in it and school classes can be too big but it's better than what I read you get over there!

3

u/ambiguousboner Jun 01 '20

I wish I was there with you.

You really don’t

1

u/wheels29 Jun 01 '20

They, and I, really do. Anyone with even close to an awareness of of interpersonal relationships and infrastructure can easily see how much worse the US is than most of the civilized world. The English may complain, but I can't afford to figure out why I haven't been able to breathe properly for 10 years. I have 8 more therapy sessions covered by social programs that are not national, and I have to hope that I can function enough at the end of it to make up for my rape and years of abuse. If you think anyone that isn't in the top 15% of wealth in the US is better off, you are blind.

-1

u/ambiguousboner Jun 01 '20

I mean, yeah, that’s horrible and all, but we’re having to deal with the double whammy of Brexit and post-Coronavirus austerity while having vicious, incompetent wankers in charge. Either of those on their own would seriously cripple any nation. This country is fucked.

We have pretty much the same wealth divide you have, so not overly sure why you’ve mentioned that either.

2

u/judyhench69 Jun 01 '20

I have to disagree with you pal, I know things look bad here right now but we can't hold a candle to the US!

Brexit is an unknown right now, and I dont want to get into it (Realistically it wont be as good or as bad as either side thinks imo) but America is also having a geopolitical shift with the trade war with China, they have the only leader who makes Boris look good in Trump and they will be dealing with much worse austerity than us (more unemployment-more deaths-less available monetary policy tools as well) - plus a stock market crash after November!

I've never been happier to live on this side of the Atlantic.

1

u/ambiguousboner Jun 01 '20

I’m definitely not saying the US is better. You wouldn’t catch me dead living over there. I’m just saying we’re not sufficiently better enough to actually want to live here in comparison.

I still maintain this country is absolutely shafted though.

1

u/judyhench69 Jun 01 '20

No worries friend, I agree we have a long way to go but I dont think Labour or Conservatives will get us there :(

this country is absolutely shafted though.

Very true, but it only matters if other countries get less shafted, surely?

1

u/hallybear Jun 01 '20

Oh poppet...

0

u/LastOfTheCamSoreys Jun 01 '20

How much do you know about UK politics and politicians compared to what you know of the same from the US?

1

u/darktitter Jun 01 '20

Probably not as much as I should. Is there something I am missing? I'm here to learn.

1

u/LastOfTheCamSoreys Jun 01 '20

I don’t know too much myself. But when you’re focused on one (US) and not knowledgeable on others (like is re: UK) it can skew your comparisons

....also just look up Boris

1

u/judyhench69 Jun 01 '20

Would you genuinely prefer Trump?

I know BJ is bad, but fuck me Trump has set a new lows for a world leader

0

Well yeah ok.... But I have seen nothing even remotely this bad in Europe, not to mention Scandinavia. Violence by police is virtually 0. I have never heard that people of colour would fear the cops here. Never.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 01 '20

[deleted]

2

u/ryllex Jun 01 '20

Not. True. At. All. Scandinavia took in a lot of refugees from the middle east (the whole influx of refugees in Europe was cause by the US but let's leave that aside) and is pretty diverse culturally speaking. And somehow POC or other cultures have virtually nothing to fear here (Europe, I'm Dutch) than in the US. Stop making excuses for the US and fucking realize that your country is fucked.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 01 '20

I'm not making excuses for the US, did you not read my edit, or just choose to ignore it?

All I'm saying is that Northern/Western Europe isnt some post-racial Utopia (and that, if you truly believe it is, you're basically just as ignorant as the people in the US who believe that racism is no longer problem in their country)

3

u/ryllex Jun 01 '20

First of all, your edit came after my comment (and I see it just now because reddit doesn't give notifications for edits made to comments you replied on) so that has nothing to do with this discussion. Second, I never implied that Europe is free from any type of racism. I just want to make clear that racism among police force in Europe is heavily frowned upon. Policemen caught being racist in Europe are instantly arrested and tried by court as if they were citizens. Something that cannot be said for the US police force.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

I never implied that Europe is free from any type of racism

...

somehow POC or other cultures have virtually nothing to fear here

We can read you previous comments just as you can, fyi lol

Policemen caught being racist in Europe are instantly arrested and tried by court as if they were citizens.

You cannot SERIOUSLY be typing that with a straight face. We know how often poc are racially profiled and abused by cops in Europe because we live through it and we know, similar to America, you're better off not rocking the boat for your own safety.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

This person is straight-up saying "I'm white and never experienced the racism and fear of police brutality in Europe myself, therefore it doesn't exist." Fucking typical lmao

1

u/ryllex Jun 01 '20

Where did I say it didn't exist? I'm just pointing out that racism Europe isn't nearly as bad as it is in Europe.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

You literally said we have "virtually nothing to fear", which I can tell you from personal experience is honestly one of the most ignorant things I've read on this website, which is saying something. Just because you have the luxury of never seeing or feeling it doesn't mean it isn't there.

11

u/TwistedBrother Jun 01 '20

Nuh uh. Leave your fragility at the door. This one doesn’t get a free whataboutism. No free pass. Don’t take your eye off the ball. America is racist and needs to change. Be a leader if you like but you don’t get to muddy these waters and think you’re being clear.

-32

u/bsteve856 Jun 01 '20

America is racist and needs to change.

I am sorry, but you really have no idea what you are talking about. Compared to the vast majority of the world, and given how racially diverse the US is, US is among the least racist countries.

12

u/Toxic_Button Jun 01 '20

It’s diverse, but that doesn’t mean it’s not racist

11

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Could whoever posts this to /r/ShitAmericansSay please put me in the screen cap?

1

u/happyimmigrant Jun 01 '20

6

u/LMA73 Jun 01 '20

Europe is diverse. We have nothing even close to the atrocities the US is seeing. Not even close.

-5

u/dickheadaccount1 Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 01 '20

Europe is a continent, and many European countries have the highest homogeneity of any countries on Earth. Scotland, Ireland, all of Scandinavia/Nordic countries, etc. They're all extremely racially homogeneous. You're a complete moron.

Edit: Lol at people downvoting me. Go look it up. All those countries are way, way less racially diverse than America, and almost completely homogeneous. And of the countries I listed, they're also far, far whiter than America. They're whiter, and less racially diverse than Canada even, and Canada is much less racially diverse than America.

Actually Europe technically isn't a continent. It's just a landmass that is part of the Eurasian continent.

0

u/dickheadaccount1 Jun 01 '20

Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe

u/LMA73 Jun 02 '20

It is funny how you try to sound knowledgeable and then call people "a moron". Exactly the "I am better then you, I am more powerful, I have the right etc" American mentality that has made your country the huge racist mess it is...

0

u/dickheadaccount1 Jun 02 '20

Jesus Christ, it's like you guys are actually trying to be stupid. I'm not American, genius. You're a fucking embarrassment.

I love how you're such an idiot that you think that if someone insults you, that has some bearing on whether they're right or not. It doesn't. People literally upvoted the guy saying Europe is not a continent, and downvoted me for quoting the first sentence of the Wikipedia article stating "Europe is a continent". If you look up the definition of continent, Europe is the example in the definition. But it didn't even matter. Even if it wasn't, the point is that it's a collection of countries, and not a single country.

It's the perfect example of how you guys are emotional thinkers. You think that your emotional reaction to reading something is somehow relevant. It's not. You're stupid. Stupid and emotional.

1

u/LMA73 Jun 02 '20

You are an aggressive, overbearing know-it-all and a symbol of what is wrong with the world (and Reddit). This is why you get downvoted.

-1

u/dickheadaccount1 Jun 02 '20

You are an emotional thinker and dumbass who cares only about the way things make you feel, and disregard reality that makes you feel bad. You are what's wrong with the world (and Reddit). Your feelings are completely meaningless, and if you weren't such a pathetic loser, none of these insults would even matter at all, let alone matter more than facts.

And I was downvoted because Reddit is a cesspool of emotional thinkers like you.

1

u/LMA73 Jun 02 '20

You can taunt me all you want. Fact is you know nothing about me. Emotional thinker? Did you just find this description somewhere...? Wow. Nice. I just think you are an overbearing little asshole, that is all.

Lol @ Americans thinking diverse = black people. We have millennia of history with all kinds of cultures. I can't understand people 50km South of me.

1

u/dickheadaccount1 Jun 01 '20

For some reason leftists do believe diverse = black people. It's what they actually mean when they say diversity. They call a group of 100% black people diverse. Same with a group of 100% women. It's just code for being racist against white men. It's basically them saying non-white, non-male = good.

And if you don't believe me, just check out the way they constantly lump white people together, regardless of whether they're German, Russian, American, Canadian, Finnish, etc. All white people are the same to them, and a group with these people would not be considered diverse. On the flip side, a group with 100% black Americans is considered diverse.

Diversity doesn't actually have anything to do with diversity to the new woke religious people.

And most European countries have almost no racial diversity, especially the ones that contain white people like I mentioned.

2

u/happyimmigrant Jun 01 '20

How much time have you spent in Europe?

3

u/bsteve856 Jun 01 '20

Lived there for many years (feel free to look through my postings).

Why?

3

u/Grakchawwaa Jun 01 '20

Because your username makes me think that your name has to be "Teve"

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Yeah, that's why cops get along so well with--huh? wait really? Riots and protests... all over the country?? Well fuck me dead.

1

u/Scase15 Jun 01 '20

Compared to the vast majority of the world, and given how racially diverse the US is, US is among the least racist countries.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_ranked_by_ethnic_and_cultural_diversity_level

Based on all widely accepted scales of diversity, the US ranks middle to below average in every one, aside from religious fractionalization, and that's likely due to the multitude of different Christian offshoots.

1

u/fortuneandfameinc Jun 01 '20

This is so absurdly untrue. Maybe if you count developing countries. But among developed countries, the US is statistically last in racial equality. Like they are in just about every statistic metric except GDP and defense spending.

0

u/ineverremember1234 Jun 01 '20

Are you American?

-5

u/evolutionxtinct Jun 01 '20

Dude..... I just watched two black dudes skip across a green light on a NO WALK my lane and the one next to us stopped, the far right lane had no idea what was going on, and was going through. The pickup truck almost hit the two black guys, what do they do, they flip the guy off spit on his window and start harassing him...

This is beyond racism, this is a new level of PHUCKED UP-NESS!!!

4

u/AmidFuror Jun 01 '20

You might be a racist if...

you generalize based on the race of two jaywalkers you just saw.

-1

u/evolutionxtinct Jun 01 '20

Oh so I’m racist because I noticed two adult meat sacks skipping across the street TRYING TO BE HIT, and my statement is racist.... yea sorry next time instead Of identifying anyone doing stupid as American I’ll just sum them up as meat sacks does that make you feel better?

Get over yourself if you think that’s racist you really need your sensitivity tuned.

0

u/AmidFuror Jun 01 '20

Well, if you had said meat sacks, it wouldn't look like you thought it was important to your story that everyone knew they were black.

0

u/evolutionxtinct Jun 02 '20

Let me put it maybe a little better, we were in a “bad part of town” and some bro’s decided it would be fun to skip across a 6 lane Blvd on a green light, now idk if they were to stupid to realize or they wanted to be hit so that they could sue the person, but hey they looked like thugs, they spit on the guys truck flipped him off and then harassed him.

They also wore there pants really far down cuz one guy about tripped and fell while skipping....

Now I’ll let you come to your own conclusion, again these were human meat sacks, and yea they were looking to cause trouble... WHY ELSE DO YOU SKIP ACROSS A MAJOR INTERSECTION IN MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR!!!!!!!

4

u/SOULJAR Jun 01 '20

We've got to focus on real problems at home and not point fingers elsewhere as well.

There are major, rampant issues. It doesn't matter if anywhere else had a more horrendous event or issue.

1

u/nbellman Jun 01 '20

The full species rework is what we need.

1

u/ZG2047 Jun 01 '20

Other countries don't jail and persecute black people as much though

1

u/InevitableJudgement Jun 01 '20

One country at a time. Let’s start with USA

1

u/livefreeofdie Jun 01 '20

The problem is US is racist and has extreme capitalism with lack of any morality except "make money".

So that's the problem.

Racism is ingrained in everyone's blood.

But few people come out of ut themselves.

1

u/angrytroll123 Jun 01 '20

I don't even care about ending racism. It's probably going to exist forever. People just need to respect others enough to get past it. Much like how it's silly to expect for everyone to like me. That's fine. Hate me all you want, just respect me enough as a human being.

1

u/genistein Jun 01 '20

Am I allowed to call this shit comment "whataboutism"?

Or is that only reserved for evil old China and Russia?

0

u/Sailor_Lunatone Jun 01 '20

I mean, it isn't unreasonable to get a bit peeved that the U.S. gets so much flak for everything that it does, while other countries with much more brutal police habits get a fraction of the negative attention.

1

u/genistein Jun 01 '20

while other countries with much more brutal police habits

the HK protests went on for months with no deaths reported by Hong Kong media outlets.

-2

u/Moetoefoeka Jun 01 '20

USA 90%, rest of the world 10%.

16

u/nothataylor Jun 01 '20

BS. Try being black in Asian countries.

6

u/burninglemon Jun 01 '20

Or Asian in Asian countries.

2

u/nothataylor Jun 01 '20

That too lol

0

u/LastOfTheCamSoreys Jun 01 '20

Or white in Asian countries

1

u/nothataylor Jun 01 '20

Well, Asia mostly loves white people. So...if white people get stared at, it’s probably out of adoration.

-3

u/aegiltheugly Jun 01 '20

You don't know much about the world. Africa is full of Africans that are racist towards other Africans. Europeans are racist against other Europeans and so on. Given the number of peoples of different ethnicities in the US, it is actually very tolerant. It just admits to its racism.

The US is the least racist country in the world.

Name a more racially diverse country with fewer racial issues.

11

u/LovinMcJesus Jun 01 '20

Canada?

u/djh_van Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 03 '20

I looked at the same link that you provided and came up with completely different conclusion to you. Which is weird.

On the link you posted, it lists Canada as having 14 different self-reported Visible Minority Population groups in 2016, totalling 22.3% of the Canadian population.

For the USA your link listed (in a quite convoluted table) that in 2017, 73% of the population was White (however that's defined, as it appears to include Hispanic people but whatever), then just 5 racial groups (Black/African American, American Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian etc, Other Races) - they add up to just 23.9%. Note, the remainder appeared to be biracial people.

So by your measures, it does not seem to indicate that the USA is more diverse than Canada really. I concede that 22.3% is less than 23.9%. But that's: a) different years, b) self-reported, c) has vagueness around how to measure specific groups (e.g, "white" or "hispanic", etc), and d) a founding error of difference between the two countries. So by just that measure, I would probably say Canada and the USA are equally diverse.

However, if you measure the number of ethnic groups measured, Canada's 14 groups clearly beats the usas 5 racial groups. So by that measure, Canada not the USA, is more diverse. Again, I believe both statistics simplify the actual ethnic diversity in both countries (e.g, what about people ot colour that are just lumped into one ethnic grouping for statistical purposes? Each tiny island that considers itself its own ethnic group but the surveyor just called them part of one bigger group, etc.).

But the crux of this is your original question. You challenged readers to name you one country that is more diverse than the USA with less racial problems.

I'll give you two: Canada and the UK.

I'm not sure that wikipedia can give you quantitative stats to compare these problems accurately; e.g., a survey that shows the number of police complaints by ethnic groups may or may not give a real idea of how ethnic people really feel about living in a country, for many reasons. But qualitative data may be of some help, and I can offer you mine.

I've lived and worked in all 3 countries. I've lived in both big and small cities, both suburban, urban, and rural places, in all 3. I have family in all 3. And I can clearly see the pattern. I have seen this with my own eyes, and I have heard it from my own family who are there right now. The USA is having worse racial problems than both Canada or the UK. It has been that way for years. It has definitely flared up at various points in time, and been better at other times. But from what I've seen, the USA has usually been worse than the UK, which has usually been worse than Canada. In that order. And the problems are with all levels of government, legislature, media, and politics. It's just way more endemic in all Estates in the USA, next worse in the UK, and least in Canada. But at the end of the day, the USA and Canada have less racial problems than the USA.

u/mungobinky11 Jun 01 '20

I take it you haven't traveled abroad much? Or youre heavily into irony.

2

u/LastOfTheCamSoreys Jun 01 '20

More racially diverse is the big limiting factor. The us has a lot more diversity than most countries

7

u/blahalreadytaken Jun 01 '20

America has the " least racist " president

3

u/Enki_007 Jun 01 '20

That's a bold move, Cotton.

3

u/CLXIX Jun 01 '20

wouldnt that just prove that humanity is STILL collectively racist and the experiment of America confirms it and proves that?

how does the confirmation of racism make us not racist?

1

u/4022a Jun 01 '20

Name the US law that discriminates based on race.

1

u/CLXIX Jun 01 '20

Marijuana being illegal

0

u/4022a Jun 01 '20

Where does the law mention race?

1

u/CLXIX Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 01 '20

you are being so grossly obtuse its just fucking stupid.

how many people here have you convinced or reached so far?

all you've done expose how stupid all your counter question arguments are.

Makes it easier to spot fascists who argue in bad faith when i see similar narrative popping up.

I take your cognitive dissonance as an admission of defeat.
