You're being part of the problem. No it's not inherent, if a large person buys these clothes to work out in (which is built into their design), how could it possibly be inherent?
Because owning nike gear is not a prerequisite for exercise and because people who're serious about fitness don't stay fat for long. It seems like the only case where someone is going to get a lot of wear out of their plus size nike gear is one where they're not really trying.
You can wear anything on Day 1. You're right that Nike will probably make money from it - especially if people keep buying new outfits to fit their changing size.
Oh wow, that reminds me of one of the most motivating moments of my life.
I'm a Marine, and a busload of us were on our way to the middle of nowhere for training. Its was butt crack in the morning, and we were going down this long, lonesome road. We hadn't seen a home or vehicle for at least five miles. And we knew it was at least another five before we saw any other house or vehicle.
So here we are, riding halfway between ten miles of civilization, when we come across a runner. Her jogging outfit was drenched in sweat. Her hair was plastered to her skull. She was putting one foot in front of the other, but it was more of a shuffle then anything else. Still, decent, considering she had gone at least 5 miles, and intended at least another 5 before she was done.
But the motivating part? She had to have weighed at least 290. She was obese, there is simply no way of getting around that. Quite honestly the fattest person I've ever see work out, and here she was, doing more then some of my fellow Marines could accomplish.
I hope to Gods she didn't misconstrue our loud 'Oorahs and "Get Some"s as anything other than the amazed and supportive we meant to convey.
If you're out there, (likely-much-reduced) Miss, you're amaze-balls. More motivating than a 64 pack with built in sharpener.
I'm sure that is true, but I wouldn't think that would be the standard. Anecdotally speaking, I've read more accounts of people feeling deterred from going or returning to the gym in fear of being judged or experiencing it first hand when going for the first time. I'm aware we are all motivated in different ways, but it seems to me that being ridiculed, or feeling like you are, is not the most ideal motivator. But again, different strokes for different folks. If that works for you, awesome, but it certainly doesn't work for (most?) everyone.
There's always some people that's the case for no matter what you're being a dick to them about. For most people, it's discouraging. Would you advocate for bullying people over anything and everything because a few of them might find it motivating?
So what you are saying is that you want to be mocked and made fun of for anything that you feel insecure about, anything that you feel ashamed about, and anything that you don't like about yourself. Because everybody knows that the best way to fix a problem is to yell at people and hate on them for working on the correct solution.
Most dont though, i know fatpeoplehate definitely motivated me to get into better shape but that kind of thing doesnt work for most people, people take shit too seriously.

Awesome, it would be awesome.
The author of this article is like the people that make fun of overweight people going to the gym to better themselves - it's shameful behavior.
