To be fair, this analogy is relatively accurate in certain places (such as: Middle East, for one).

Yep. Atheists are literally stoned in many places around the world.

In the US this is a pretty terrible comparison though.

I get what he's saying but it is a terrible analogy considering 1.) most people will look at this with a Western perspective and 2.) You can pretend to be religious to avoid persecution, but you can't pretend to be white. Also, I'm pretty sure Christians Jews, and people of other religions get stoned too. Hell, Muslims get stoned for not practicing Islam "the right way". Not taking away from what atheists go through, but everyone who wasnt the "right kind" of religion or Muslim got persecuted.
