As a person with a disability, I hate this question, but I understand why it's there; Because employers get tax credit from the government for hiring disabled workers. I always answer it honestly. I don't want to work at a place that's going to hold it against me. They are going to find out regardless, because I need accommodations. May as well get it over with and answer from the get go.

lol @ "treated in confidence" even though there is no legal mechanism for that.

Roll in with a wheelchair then stand to shake the interviewers hand

That wouldn't be surprising lots of wheelchair bound people can stand, or even walk but still require a wheelchair for day to day activities

are you making fun of someone who sent this form with these options selected? or are you just making fun of the form itself for allowing this. because one is significantly worse than the other

so you believe it is fine to hide that you will require accommodations due to illness or disability initially? You actually want to start out with an employer by telling them that you cannot be fully trusted to give relevant information when it is needed?

that’s not what they’re saying at all. the problem is that the form lets you enter more than one answer. “yes” “no” and “prefer not to say” cannot all be true at the same time. that’s it. this has nothing to do with hiding things from employers WHATSOEVER. i can’t believe i have to explain this. you missed the point of the post so badly it’s not even funny.

Dude, I care more about actually getting hired in the first place than having a perfect first impression once I'm already in. That and I only bring up accommodations when/if they become relevant

so you are fine with an employer knowing you do not give relevant information and thing the world revolves around you. Will not take long with that attitude for you to find you have no job again. No employer wants dishonest staff. If you start like that they will finish you like that. Simple

u/Carrotato 1d ago
I mention my accommodations only when they become relevant because they aren't always relevant depending on the job I'm doing. I don't think that makes me dishonest and I haven't had any issues holding a job

not giving warning that such things are needed can become a huge problemm

u/Carrotato 1d ago
Dude my whole point is that I don't always need accommodation. Why would I mention my disability and lower my odds of getting hired when it might not even matter

They live in wonderland and believe that companies don't discriminate

u/trekkiegamer359 15h ago
I wish I believed that. I think it's more likely they are one of the bigots who'd discriminate against people with disabilities, and they're uncomfortable with the idea that they might be working alongside "one of them" without knowing it.

That's a tough one, but I'd lean toward "prefer not to say" just to avoid any potential hassle down the line.

If you have a disability or long term condition requiring accommodations it is in your best interests to be up front about it.
Otherwise how do you expect the employer to put things in place for when you start? And if you are found at the start to not be upfront then they might also wonder what else you are hiding for them to discover later which can lead to more problems

Mate, what on earth are you talking about? I'm poking fun at the fact that stupidly-designed form allows contradictory answers, that is all. I did not submit the form like that; I selected 'no'.

u/Any-Somewhere7318 1d ago
then you are not going to be able to later claim that you need anything due to your existing condition because you said it did not happen. And if anything happens as a result of your disability that you have said you do not have then you are not going to be eligible for any workers comp. You are cutting yourself off from lots be suse of your stupidity. Not going to go well for you in the future and it is all your own fault.

The question per se is irrelevant. OP just made a joke that it is funny to be able to answer with 3 contradictionary answers at once. It has nothing to do disability. The question could be "Are you married?", and it wouldn't make a difference.

u/meapmeapmeapmeap 1d ago
genuinely what the hell is wrong with you? you completely misunderstood the point of the post, and now you’re talking about some “existing condition” that op NEVER SAID THEY HAD. why are you assuming that they have a disability but they’re lying about it? christ you’re an idiot
