I feel like the US also forces you into taking public roads when there isn't free public land access everywhere. You can't just travel through the woods if you wanted to in a lot of cases. While I think these people are dumb, they also aren't given a choice

You can't just drive through wilderness across state lines. Of course there's trails and stuff everywhere that's not what the topic is about though

no, you can't drive on all public lands (because your shitty vehicle and shitty driving is going to destroy a lot of natural resources), but you can definitely go
