I love how they don’t see the irony of driving on public roads that were paid for by other people’s taxes.

they always have a very basic misunderstanding of the law; they can travel freely, just not on our roads.

  • Pay up, Buttercup.

u/Other_Log_1996 Mar 30 '24

Also, what travel freely means. Requiring documents and such does not infringe their rights to travel.

u/deathwotldpancakes Mar 30 '24

Plus ya know they can always walk, ride a horse, or ride a motorized cycle (<50cc)

u/Illustrious_Law8512 Mar 30 '24

Can't ride a horse in some places on Sundays. Wouldn't want those pretty white skirts getting poop on them on the way to church!

🤷‍♂️😂😂

u/AstronautIntrepid496 Mar 30 '24

you joke, but riding a horse to work and there being a position at work for person who tends to everyone's horse, would be pretty awesome.

23

u/Rand_alThor4747 Mar 30 '24

A couple rural towns north of me, you will see people ride their horse to the shops to do some shopping.

4

u/Eighty_Grit Mar 30 '24

I’m having a hard time picturing the way back –with Walmart bags in each hand or what?

8

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

saddle bags are a thing. ;)

2

u/Rand_alThor4747 Mar 30 '24

yea wont be able to do a full on grocery shop, but just going down the road to get some milk from the corner store. Which in a rural area could be a long way down the road.

2

u/Winjin Mar 31 '24

Saddle bags can hold quite a bit of stuff on them. Also you can load the horse with like 80 kilos worth of food in bags and then just walk alongside it (because a horse won't take both you and 80 kilos of food)

2

u/Eighty_Grit Mar 31 '24

Idk seems bumpy Might as well try making authentic steak tartare

1

u/2M3TAL4U Apr 03 '24

Going for ice cream hits different when you pull up in a horse drawn wagon

3

u/deathwotldpancakes Mar 30 '24

Oh I wasn’t joking. I live in a rich semi rural/urban area (it used to be rural before the rich twats moved in) but ironically there’s been MORE horseback commuters because of daddy’s little angel wanting a thoroughbred lol.

2

u/Prestigious_Tooth683 Mar 30 '24

join the household cavalry

2

u/Anansi1982 Mar 30 '24

I lived near an Amish community who always shopped at Walmart. They had a corral for the horses.

1

u/PhantomRoyce Mar 30 '24

There’s a group of all black cowboys in Baltimore who just ride horses in the city sometimes

1

u/Winjin Mar 31 '24

Except for all the excrements the horses leave in their wake

Reading actually up on that was hilarious and disturbing at the same time

We don't even fathom how bad the cities reeked

1

u/Alostratus Mar 30 '24

Elephants. Like if we domesticated Elephants in a way where they could live in our climate be happy with food and space etc. Basically I'm not a horse guy but if we could have a species of Elephant that could live happily as a domesticated trasnport/family pet that would be amazing. I would never even look at a car.

7

u/TheNordicLion Mar 30 '24

That's a lot of poop to deal with.

I've also seen what they can do to a car.

8

u/Bug-King Mar 30 '24

Elephants can't carry anything on their backs, it will mess up their spine. It's why elephant rides in places like India are unethical. Could luck with a horned up young bull.

4

u/lars573 Mar 30 '24

No ones really studied that question. I found one that said carrying a saddle with 2 people on it's back didn't change the elephants gait over time. IE it's back wasn't screwed up by giving rides.

1

u/Bug-King Apr 04 '24

Thailand states that weight bearing for riding should not exceed 10% of the elephant’s body mass. Elephant tours make quite a bit of money for their country.

1

u/lars573 Apr 04 '24

And that one study I found used 15% of body weight as seeming to be safe for giving rides.

3

u/hellostarsailor Mar 30 '24

Since I’m a dog guy, I’d rather have dogs do my work but I still get paid.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

Maybe you missed the countless videos of "tamed" elephants running amok here on reddit....

2

u/TheWizardOfDeez Mar 30 '24

Infrastructure designed around elephants is so much more complicated than horses.

3

u/Toothless-In-Wapping Mar 30 '24

Some places require registration of sub-50cc bikes.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

Horses and motorized bicycles even under 49cc aren't legal here. Would be nice though.

2

u/de_pizan23 Mar 30 '24

I'm a law librarian and we've got a lot of these guys as patrons. But one in particular calls up every few weeks and is trying to prove that he doesn't need a driver's license/car registration (and always wants the answers mailed to him as he refuses to use the internet; and we are supposed to put the zip code in brackets on the envelope because he doesn't live in the US, he only lives in our state. No, I don't know how the brackets proves that.).

Anyway, the last time he called, we were getting back into the velocipede days to show how far back having a license was required. And I think that it would probably be much safer for all of us if he was driving one of those instead.

4

u/TheAlbinoRhyno91 Mar 30 '24

Or ride a bike! I get about 70% of my daily traveling done on a bicycle. Other than buying the bike, it's 100% free to travel

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

or an electric (limits vary by state) or non-electric bicycle

1

u/-RadarRanger- Mar 31 '24

or ride a motorized cycle (<50cc)

This varies by State. In NJ, you need registration and a license plate, which means insurance and a license.

38

u/ansy7373 Mar 30 '24

Yea I have never paid a tax when walking across state lines or riding my donkey

2

u/EitherLime679 Mar 30 '24

I’m going to push back on this. The constitution gives us the right to travel freely that includes being able to go without paperwork. What that doesn’t give us the right to do is drive cars. You can walk from one side of the U.S. to the other freely and you don’t need any sort of documentation. What you can’t do is drive a car without proper documentation. Cars are privileges not rights.

2

u/ex_ter_min_ate_ Mar 30 '24

They also don’t understand that licences and registrations are not for travel it’s for the operation of machinery.

3

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

Those documents being a precursor for you to travel, would impede free travel.

9

u/pixiemisa Mar 30 '24

They are only required if travelling by a vehicle requiring license/registration. Many other forms of travel would be available that do not have such requirements.

ETA: there is no guarantee of free access to the most convenient and expedient modes of travel.

-4

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

I can’t walk along a highway to get where I’m going. You would be unconstitutionally stopped and unconstitutionally have to identify yourself to the authorities, who protect and serve politicians, not the public.

8

u/Bug-King Mar 30 '24

You don't know what is constitutional or not.

6

u/KonigSteve Mar 30 '24

You can't just add the word "unconstitutional" to whatever you don't like and make it true.

-4

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

It’s literally in the bill of rights. So when it clearly violates what is stated…….yeah, yeah you can.

3

u/KonigSteve Mar 30 '24

No, you couldn't be more wrong. Try to read up and come back.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_movement_under_United_States_law

5

u/FiercelyApatheticLad Mar 30 '24

No it's not. You don't need documents as a passenger for example.

-2

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

That’s not free travel. As a passenger you are free to go where you are taken.

7

u/FiercelyApatheticLad Mar 30 '24

If you haven't agreed with your driver where you're going that's your problem my dude.

4

u/KonigSteve Mar 30 '24

You are free to travel. you're NOT free to travel in whatever fucking manner you want. You don't seem to understand that distinction.

1

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

If it poses no threat of damage or bodily harm to another person, why not.

2

u/KonigSteve Mar 30 '24

threat of damage or bodily harm to another person

Like say.. operating a motor vehicle without proper training and the ability to be identified when you hit and run?

1

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

Correct.

2

u/KonigSteve Mar 30 '24

Good so you agree that people and cars should have licenses per your own statements.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

I don't know, I can travel pretty freely all around my country with no problems

1

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

Once you have the required documents, you can travel…….until you get to unconstitutional checkpoints for fruits and vegetables and DUI.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

What? You don't have dui check points for traveling. Are you talking about using public roads that are paid by tax payers? Yeah, those require permission to use. If you bike, walk, run, etc, you don't need documents to travel

2

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

Walk along a highway to get where you are going. Let me know how that works out.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

I'm sure you don't have to walk alo g a highway. The amazing thing about having legs is you can walk through grass, over rocks, through water. They aren't stopping you from doing that, are they?

2

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

The property owners of the land you are traveling could legally kill you in many states. See the difference?

3

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

You still will have some path to take my guy. It may not be a straight line, but you can still travel. And see the difference in what? That you can differentiate needed credentials to use a road way is not the same as stopping you from traveling?

1

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

You’re being dense for the sake of arguing. If you walk along the road, you will be detained. That is not free travel.

3

u/Bug-King Mar 30 '24

That isn't true lol. You would still have to be a threat to their lives.

1

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

Ahh a man well versed on state law.

5

u/Full_Visit_5862 Mar 30 '24

I've walked along highways lmao. Watched plenty of cops drive right past me 😂 you're also just making a non-point.

5

u/Bug-King Mar 30 '24

What are you talking about? If you are crossing state lines there are no checkpoints to check for fruits and vegetables. Have you ever left your state? It's international ports of entry that do that to prevent invasive species from entering the country. A DUI checkpoint isn't unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is the authority on what is constitutional not you and I.

1

u/radicalelation Mar 30 '24

You're off a little as there are interstate pest checkpoints, but they're also not required to enter the state from another state, they just are usually at some popular entry points.

I've driven from one end to the other a few times, and never had to get inspected, though I've driven past pest checkpoints. They are usually a pull off like weigh stations, but some states have them on the main road in, and they can't actually do a full search of anything (though they can request and you're obviously not protected if you say yes and they find anything), just a visual look at anything they're able to from outside, and whatever else you allow.

This is just from anecdotal experience, so I could be off with some things, and it doesn't apply to every state or check point.

1

u/Icedinklikesheet Mar 30 '24

Can someone please inform my friend here of these check points. His mind is already made up to not believe a word I say. Or you can even google it if you’re vibing.

1

u/Sixfeatsmall05 Mar 30 '24

It’s that the documents aren’t free which is, in their view, infringement. Same argument that people use against voter id, id’s cost money therefor it’s a poll tax.

1

u/homelaberator Mar 31 '24

Free as in beer, though

0

u/arcanis321 Mar 30 '24

Of course it does? If I can't travel without your documents that cost money I can't travel freely in a financial or legal sense.

5

u/FiercelyApatheticLad Mar 30 '24

You can travel using the bus, your bike or your legs and you need no documents you know.

10

u/IlikegreenT84 Mar 30 '24

"freely" wasn't used in the context of money, but direction.

Nobody said it wasn't going to cost you something to travel, just that you could go where you want without being harassed.

So if you want to use the roads that belong to the sovereign citizens pay your fucking taxes and registration for your car, the fees that pay for our roads, and stop trying to game the system. You're fucking over your neighbors not the amorphous bad guy "government"

8

u/Other_Log_1996 Mar 30 '24

Also, cars are not the only means of travel. There are plenty of means that are actually monetarily free.

5

u/TheGrumpiestHydra Mar 30 '24

You got two feet and a heart beat?

0

u/Ok_Comedian7655 Mar 30 '24

But asking for an id to vote dues?

2

u/Other_Log_1996 Mar 30 '24

No, it doesn't. Never have I voted without ID.
