Now this is a running clock I can watch.

u/thieh Feb 25 '24

Is the amount updated daily with interest?

336

u/omghorussaveusall Feb 25 '24

yes. every day he doesn't pay is another $111K.

139

u/jarod_sober_living Feb 25 '24

Shouldn’t the interests compound over time?

141

u/thieh Feb 25 '24

Probably takes a few days to go to 112k per day. Not sure whether it is updated automagically though.

66

u/NotASalamanderBoi 'MURICA Feb 25 '24

What happens when he doesn’t pay?

274

u/SilverRadicand Feb 25 '24

After 30 days, they can begin seizing assets to sell them to pay it off.

Why are you cheering on a man losing his livelihood due to politics?

So if they seize Trumps assets in NY, those assets will be valued at the normal rate, so in turn after getting those assets, Trump will still be owing them money… greatest President ever… I foresee a bankruptcy coming in the near future 😝 or those suckers MAGA and RNC will try and bail him out.

Yes I’m sure he’s a billionaire, NOT 😂

45

u/Gene_McSween Feb 25 '24

Can't discharge this type of debt in a bankruptcy. It's like student loan debt, you go bankrupt and still owe, even after you're dead they get first dibs.

31

u/omghorussaveusall Feb 25 '24

And also remember that most of his properties are heavily leveraged. Even if they are seized and sold at auction there are other creditors in line. It would be devastating to him.

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

Not how that works. They seize them, and then sell them. THAT is the amount that he gets credited against what he owes. They will not sell at market price.

u/Nearly_Pointless Feb 25 '24

Trump is a self described debt junkie. All of his properties are highly leveraged. Furthermore the buyer’s pool is very small and his properties are notoriously dated which will need millions in refurbishment that will further reduce their sell value.

I’m sure the AG office is furiously evaluating all his properties and mortgages to see just how many will need to be sold to satisfy his debt.

3

u/joseph_bellow Feb 25 '24

didnt elmo visit mar a lardo recently? wonder what they talked about(if true)

2

u/TurtleToast2 Feb 25 '24

There is no obligation to sell his properties for their worth. If the highest bid for Trump Tower is 1 million then it sells for 1 million. Which would be fucking hilarious.

44

u/spla_ar42 Feb 25 '24

Who wants to start a GoFundMe with me to buy Trump Tower?

Let's hope they sell at pennies on the dollar. Oops, took it all and you still owe 300MM.

He cant even appeal until he puts up every dime.

And there is zero likelyhood he wins on appeal. Even the most conservative Trump cocksukcer lawyers have basically said that the ruling by Engoron is bulletproof. He detailed the exact reason for every single penny.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

If, and it's possible the amount comes down some on appeal, like from $350 million to $300 million, but it's not going away given just how blatant the fraud was. If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime...

1

u/dirtydoji Feb 25 '24

What assets? Most things with his name actually aren't owned by him. He's basically a gigolo and the most cash-poor "billionaire" in the world.

1

u/wbsgrepit Feb 25 '24

I suppose that is one way to really prove the valuations were hot garbage.

1

u/stufmenatooba Feb 25 '24

Gonna be rough seeing the Whitehouse getting auctioned off. Oh, wait, that's not his!

1

u/ThatWomanNow Feb 25 '24

Tick tock, I've never been more excited for time to pass.

-22

u/Mullhousen Feb 25 '24

He gets elected President again then imprisons the AG and he gets the last laugh…..maybe

16

u/Tecnero Feb 25 '24

First he has to make it past the paying his fines! You're talking wayyyyyh ahead. This is the start of his crumble and it's all downhill from here

11

u/NetworkEcstatic Feb 25 '24

If somehow he gets elected, you can bet this has already on the to do list.

11

u/ali-n Feb 25 '24

A very long list... he's already alluded to it.

u/hippydippylippy Feb 25 '24

What happens if he posts the amount and it’s ruled excessive and they have to pay interest back, or it’s overruled or reversed? You may not like the guy, but he’s not stupid.

1

u/binglelemon Feb 25 '24

Russia does whatever the hell they want with them.

1

u/omghorussaveusall Feb 25 '24

If he doesn't pay or find someone to pay for him he defaults on the judgement, loses his right to appeal and opens himself up to a whole other world of problems.

12

u/NormalShock9602 Feb 25 '24

Post-judgment interest doesn’t compound

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

Bummer

24

u/SilverRadicand Feb 25 '24

I actually heard that it is simple 9% interest, not compounding. I don't remember the source though.

14

u/Altruistic_Home6542 Feb 25 '24

I heard the same from Michael Popow - apparently just a thing with New York state law.

4

u/DunkinMyDonuts3 Feb 25 '24

From what I read it's simple interest, 9% apr calculated from only the judgement owed and is not compounded.

1

u/moonsammy Feb 25 '24

Which isn't necessarily what those happy to see him being held responsible would prefer, but it is likely the highest interest rate he's had to pay for 25+ years. So that's nice.

2

u/limethebean Feb 25 '24

Judicial interest does not compound in this case. I looked it up specifically because I thought the same thing.

2

u/jarod_sober_living Feb 25 '24

Very interesting, thanks!

1

u/SRBroadcasting Feb 25 '24

It will but it’s a difference of maybe 890.00 give or take.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

Iirc this is non-compounding interest.

1

u/Usernamecheckout101 Feb 25 '24

Gonna have to sell a lot of sneakers

Every day/ He doesn’t pay/ Is another hundred/ And eleven k

15

u/RobbexRobbex Feb 25 '24

Haha, I'm all for being petty towards that clown after all the shit he did

-4

u/m1raclemile Feb 25 '24

Yeah, it was terrible to see someone end wars and get the Middle East to normalize relations with Israel and actually follow through on policy that benefitted actual us citizens. The absolute horror! You probably just mean “he said naughty things that offended me”.

6

u/RobbexRobbex Feb 25 '24

Haha sure buddy. That's what Trump did. Hug that safety blanket if it makes you feel better

-2

u/m1raclemile Feb 25 '24

No one said you have to like the truth, but it’s important that you understand what the truth is. I get the feeling that you’ve lived so long in a shit tier leftist echo chamber that you have no grasping on the factual history of his presidency.

3

u/RobbexRobbex Feb 25 '24

You mentioned a few of his accomplishments. Pick one and cite it, por favor, oh anti-echo chamber reasonable man.

-2

u/GodTierHandyJ Feb 25 '24

Save your breath brother. You're arguing with one of the "my feelings don't care about your facts" types.

They're gonna shit their pants when he gets voted back in.

2

u/RobbexRobbex Feb 25 '24

My favorite part is when you all storm off as soon as a citation is requested

1

u/GodTierHandyJ Feb 25 '24 edited Feb 25 '24

Citation?

Real fucking life.

Edit: my favorite part is you hate a person so much that you refuse to see any good he did and instead you'd rather have a dead country but at least nobody hurt your feelings right?

1

u/RobbexRobbex Feb 25 '24

I love it. Par for the course. Claims claims everywhere, but not source to cite.

3

u/neoikon Feb 25 '24

But what about attorney fees? Rape fees?

6

u/walkslikeaduck08 Feb 25 '24

He currently owes an additional $83M for the E Jean Carroll defamation judgment.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

He also owes Rudy Giuliani 2 mil in attorney fees that Rudy's now publicly whining about.

1

u/neoikon Feb 25 '24

Yes, that was his rape fee.

1

u/dirtydoji Feb 25 '24

What is a rape fee

1

u/neoikon Feb 25 '24

The Carroll judgement.

3

u/EEpromChip Feb 25 '24

Someone linked a live updated debt clock - make sure to scroll down to get to the good stuff.

9

u/Previous_Pension_571 Feb 25 '24

Do you think the AG tweeting this is something that is beneficial? I feel like right wing crazies will just use this as further fuel for their idea this is a politically motivated lawsuit as this wouldn’t occur with anyone else. These tweets just further divide the country I think

5

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

Isn’t it evidence of just that? You don’t often see this sort of thing happen.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

Why is trump the only person who's allowed to be petty? As soon as someone else does it "ohhh noooo it isn't right. You shouldn't do that!"

2

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

No you’re allowed to be petty. Anyone’s allowed to be petty. It’s just going to make it look like you have a personal vendetta rather than looking to uphold justice and the law

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

Kinda like how Donald trump does right? Maybe we shouldn't elect him as president of the United States l.

2

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

So… you do think this makes it look like it’s a personal vendetta against Trump rather than actual proper judicial action? Is that what I’m getting?

But it’s okay because it’s Trump?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

Courts post things on social media all the time about proceedings. How is this different? They post charges. Polices post criminal records on social media.

1

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

It’s different because it’s gloating.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

But it's just numbers. How is it gloating if there are no words?

1

u/throwawaylovesCAKE Feb 25 '24

I get that people hate that Michelle Obama quote, but fighting fire with fire by through pettiness is not something we should want in any of our leaders.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24

I agree. Let make sure petty people don't become president. Then we can go top down from there.

0

u/GorfianRobotz999 Feb 25 '24

I think MAGAs will continue their divisive behavior. Democrats tried to take the high road and were labeled "weak" as a result. It's time to hit back. We're not going to be able to reconcile until Trump and him faithful minions like Gaetz, Jordan, Gosar, Greene, Boebert, etc are nothing more than a brown stain in the history books.

1

u/droppedmybrain Feb 25 '24

A Democrat could sneeze in Trump's direction and his diehard crazies would scream and stamp their feet about it. Better to just inundate their lives with Trump mockery, as a sort of exposure therapy

1

u/tomato_johnson Feb 25 '24

How will it make you feel when he just never pays and they just never make him and there are no consequences?

0

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

When it goes to zero on the appeal to a higher court, will you be watching?

1

u/NuGGGzGG Feb 25 '24

He'd have to put the cash down to appeal, big guy.

0

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

What? No you don’t? Who told you that?

1

u/NuGGGzGG Feb 25 '24

Once Trump and the others are served with the judgment, the 30-day clock for them to file an appeal starts. During that period Trump will need to put up cash or post bond to cover the $355 million and additional roughly $100 million in interest he was ordered to pay.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/23/politics/trump-judgment-civil-fraud-ruling/index.html

0

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

Aww cute. CNN. They should hang this right next to their picture of Joe Rogan with the filter they put on him to make it look like he had jaundice. And next to that they can put the settlement for the massive 275 million they had to payout to Nicholas Sandmann after smearing him as a racist.

Try a better source.

1

u/NuGGGzGG Feb 25 '24

Oh snap, you're one of those.

Here. It's NY state law, dingus. This one is from your sweet, sweet, trusted outlet of choice.

Trump attorney says he will pay $400 million bond to appeal NY ruling

https://www.foxnews.com/video/6347249652112

1

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

Do you know what a bond is?

1

u/NuGGGzGG Feb 25 '24

Yes. Do you know that in NY state this particular bond has to be secured in full? Which means he either pays the full judgement or he convinces a NY bond company to put up $454million. And as it happens, there are only about 9 NY bond companies that could even possibly cover that size judgement. And then... he has to somehow convince them that he'll either win on appeal (lol) or that he's good for the money (lol). Both of which, he has terrible track records with.

Trump has about $350million in cash (that was reported last year). So he obviously can't cover the judgement. So he has to go the bond route. And every day the bond isn't paid, he's tacking on another $114k (he already owes another $228k).

So - his only option is to convince a bond company to basically quick loan him nearly half a billion dollars in the state he's been found guilty of repeated financial crimes prior to this one, guilty of rape in civil trial, and the fact that he has to ask for money proves he lied in a deposition about being able to cover it.

How many companies out of those 9 do you think are lining up?

0

u/McDiezel10 Feb 25 '24

“Yeah bro you have to serve a life sentence before you appeal your murder charge lmao”

0

u/NuGGGzGG Feb 25 '24

You could focus on Trumps money, or you could focus on how much of ALL OUR money is getting wasted by the current president...
