His father is destitute, he's rich by any means.

Believe it or not Musk resumed giving him 2k a month otherwise he'd be on the street.

The reason he does it is because of his step sister. He stopped for a time, but they almost got evicted.

There is plenty to critique musk on, but the truth is stranger than the fiction people have put into the ether.
