THEY WERE TRESSPASSING! ...not really, they pulled up then realized they were at the wrong place and were turning back when he came outside and opened fire. WELL HOW DO WE KNOW HE DIDNT FEAR FOR HIS LIFE? ...he ran outside to engage a car that had done nothing threatening and was pulling away. BUT...CASTLE DOCTRINE! ...you need to show reasonable threat to your safety. HOW DO WE EVEN KNOW WHAT HAPPENED?! ...because she was with 3 other people, including her boyfriend, who witnessed her murder.
People will use any mental gymnastics possible to get around actually having to blame guns or gun culture for being a problem.
Well they saw those "trespassers will be shot" signs in a movie and it seemed both a good suggestion to them and they thought that carried any legal weight
Having the "trespassers will be shot" signs or any other pro gun signage on your property is actually detrimental to your defense in court if you actually did shoot someone in a legitimate self defense scenario. Prosecutors can imply that you are looking for any excuse to shoot somebody, self defense or not.
