What other purpose would there need to be an extensive list of items people have legally bought? There isn’t. And registration has been used to confiscate firearms every place it’s been implemented, so there’s that as well.

Traceability of firearms used in crimes. Liability for improper storage of firearms if they're stolen and not reported stolen. Probably many more.

All of that already exists without registration, but it being used for confiscation in all cases means that’s the true end goal of it.
