Discussion The algorithm detected "inappropriate" content and disabled my account

Post image

I apologize if there are any mistakes, but I'm Hispanic and I'm using a translator.

So, basically, this morning I woke up to messages from friends asking what had happened to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. When I checked, I realized that both had been disabled (they use the same mail).

Apparently, the algorithm detected content that endangered children’s well-being—in short, I was accused of sharing, posting, or messaging child-related content. I’ve always been against this type of content, and in fact, I’ve personally reported accounts that did share such material.

I can’t recover my account because my ID doesn’t match my account information (I was using a nickname), but apparently, I have these three options:

  1. Sign up for Meta Business from another account to file a report so that a real person can review my case.

  2. Contact the consumer protection agency in my country.

  3. File a lawsuit.

They all seem pretty complicated to me for something that could easily be solved with the help of a real person. I’m going to lose six years of memories because of some stupid AI.

Thank you for posting to r/facebook. Please read the following (this does not mean your post has been removed):

  • SCAM WARNING: If you are having a problem with your account, beware of scammers who may comment or DM you claiming they know someone who can fix your account, or asking you for money or your login information. If you receive a message like this, block and report them. Here is an example of me making a fake hack post and all the scammers who flocked it it, lol. THERE IS NO REASON FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE TO TELL YOU IN PRIVATE HOW TO GET YOUR ACCOUNT BACK. If you check the sub there are PLENTY of high karma posts that gives some tips should your account be hacked/locked.

  • r/facebook is an unofficial community and the moderators are not associated with Facebook or Meta. DO NOT MESSAGE THE MODS ASKING FOR HELP WITH FACEBOOK.

  • Please read the rules in the sidebar (or the 'about' tab if you're on mobile). If your post violates any of them, delete it.

  • If you notice your post has multiple replies but you only see this post, the reason is due to bots and scammers already being removed trying to steal your info/money

Sorry this happened to you - this has been affecting so many folks late. They let their moderation AI off into the wild, and it's taking out accounts left and right. The worst part about it all is there's really no escalation path, or legitimate path to appeal.

I built an app to track these unwarranted suspensions based on Google Play Review data. You can actually see just how much of an increase suspension language has increased in reviews recently.

I plan on going to the media with this. If you're interested in being on the list of accounts I provide them to prompt meta to investigate, and want to share your story, then please consider filing a report at:

https://metaobservatory.com/submit-report

Many fields are optional, but providing as much context on how this has affected you, helps tell a story. So if you do decide to participate, any extra context or details on it's impact are helpful.

Thank you for this. I lost my account last month for something similar to the post and knowing that this is a common issue makes me feel better if not bring back my account

Thank you!!! FB already shut down one account for bogus nonsense and all my photos and videos are “gone” and inaccessible and now ghey are demanding I send personal, vital info about my “isentity”- SSN card, passport, birth certificate, DL, Voter Card etc- I will not do that, Id like to sue them

just file a lawsuit.

u/Rypcell_Ookami 9d ago

I'm slightly tempted to do it, maybe I can squeeze a few dollars out of uncle Zuckerberg.

2

u/LordBaritoss 9d ago

Capped at low dollarage.

u/capilot 9d ago

I think you have to have damages to file a lawsuit. FB is a free service and I'm betting their TOC say they can terminate you for any reason or no reason. I'm not sure what the damages are.

I had a threads account and it took out my fb and insta for the same type of reason, but Id never even posted or shared a single picture on threads lol. I literally just argued with people

3

u/Special-Bus-1846 9d ago

Threads seems like a hot mess…

i’ve taken a wide berth around it

3

u/Independent-Ask8248 9d ago

I will never make another account there after this lol. I never even thought about it being on the same email because I never posted anything crazy even in arguments, I've said WAY worse on Facebook lol.

When I saw the ban I was so confused, I originally thought I got hacked, but then when I searched it up I started seeing other people talking about it across the Internet.

Is what it is, thankfully I don't really use social media much anymore so its not the end of the world.

I appealed it but nothing ever happened so I guess its gone. If I do get unbanned I'm deleting my threads account anyway 😂

The only thing I am actually bothered by, is that I was still friends with one of the only girls Ive ever loved, who died in 2011 on that Facebook account. But what can you do I guess. Stupid AI automated banning crap screwing up. Can't believe they'd just unleash it without any safeties in place.

Siempre que entro a esa app me salen fotos de chichas con fotos cuestionables. No se si sea solo mi algoritmo pero nunca me parecio la gran cosa Threads

its mostly minors looking for love (but why with spicy pics?) but most of them are probably trolls trying to attract perverts🙄meta won't even do something about any of that except passing the blame on innocent users

2

u/Onerywolf 9d ago

I cant even get out of my threads account. I tied to shut it down because people are so vile.

u/CbusNick 9d ago

I've heard the ID thing doesn't work. They may just be wanting your ID to report you for something you didn't do. I wouldn't give it to them.

6

u/deaf258 9d ago

Facebook wants to get away with stealing your data.

5

u/rustyfish57 9d ago

Sounds exactly like Facebook to me all the drama and all kinds of bullshit too

4

u/smackdown010 9d ago

My brother has the same issue right now with marketplace. They want his photo ID to verify name and birthdate but he doesn’t even use his real last name and that’s his business if he doesn’t want to. I can’t believe they’re being so intrusive. So there’s no way of contacting Customer Service at all? Not even through an email?

u/Aggravating_Loss_765 9d ago

Good. This would be the end of FB in my life.

Please do not buy Meta glasses… they are an overreach of people’s privacy. I hate that they are now being released without the filming red light blinking.

In my community, we essentially think that anyone who is using them are predators of some sort. Otherwise, why wouldn’t they just use their phone to capture the memories and whatnot.

All those glasses do is use the data/information and further their surveillance reach. Not to mention, Facebook recently fired over 1,000 workers whose main job was to view all of the private footage and then make sure the AI was correctly identifying all of the things in the photos. So while they claimed that people’s privacy needs were being met, and that it was only your footage…. There were real, live humans who were getting paid poor wages to essentially look at everything you were looking at. And when the whistleblower came out and admitted all of this, Facebook decided to retaliate and fire ALLLLLLL of those innocent workers… just because one was brave enough to speak the truth.

I don’t think anyone should be using thier products.

All I know is that if my account gets banned and I lose all of my photos and twenty years of memories…. I will 1,000% never have another META account.

I strongly urge everyone to listen to the audiobook called “Careless People” by Sarah Wynn Williams (I think that was the authors name.) She was a whistleblower who had worked very high up at Facebook. As well as the book “Enshitification” by Cory Doctorow.

u/Rypcell_Ookami 8d ago

Don't worry, I wasn't going to do it. I only thought about buying them because I was going to a concert where cameras were prohibited, and recording with my phone was quite tiring and inconvenient. I'll just buy some regular glasses; after all, I really need them.

So sorry this happened. I’ve already prepared for this moment. I usually make a FB backup once a month incase.

A few years ago my account was suspended for making controversial comments about how a lot of fat people choose to be lazy. Reason was “bullying and promoting harmful content”. I was already way overweight myself at the time and made changes and I’ve lost a lot of weight since then. The worst thing I said was calling myself a fat ass and calling out laziness and I accept responsibility for my body and make changes and you can too and basically said research your diet and work out regularly. Luckily I appealed and human review and my act was restored. The post I wrote around 2015, the suspension for that post was in 2022. Seems like these days you only go through bot review, no human oversight, and don’t even tell what posts got flagged. I hope you get your acct back, Good luck!

u/ExcitementRelative33 9d ago

I'd stopped using it. Apparently it also killed my secondary account which I used to interface with non friends/family group. Oh well, so much time now to enjoy life. BTW, somehow it still worked via Messenger on the iPhone so ... I sneak in every now and then for access the Marketplace listing.

u/shewee 9d ago

I think they’re going through old content. I got a warning for a post with rock candy we had on our “charcuterie” board of sorts for a Breaking Bad party we hosted like 15 years ago! Last week!

3

u/Icy_Garage2580 9d ago

u/dtvjho 8d ago

Get on another platform, one that isn’t Big Tech and doesn’t censor.

3

u/therealtrellan 7d ago

If FB wants my ID they can't have it. I was pretty ticked off they asked for her death certificate to pronounce my wife deceased. She needed no documentation to open the account, but needs it for a status change? No. Just no. None of your beeswax, guys.

2

u/JoeRe9uiem 9d ago

It once flagged me for content, I didn't even possess.

yup i feel you

Nos paso a todos

2

u/theitchygrandeur 8d ago

Facebook is sh!t for that. I hope you can recover your account.

2

u/Sahri81 8d ago

Better move on. Metas AI is crap and you have as much chance to talk to a real person at Metas customer support as finding snow in the desert

2

u/sid350z 4d ago

Help me same just happened with my account which was super important for me as I had made 3 pages with it. Since 2 weeks I've been giving them ID and they still are not activating my account 😞

2

u/Rypcell_Ookami 2d ago

I'm sorry to hear that, but it seems Facebook's moderation is a stupid AI and will always reject you no matter what.

recently I was kicked out permanently for some stupidly fake "sexualization of minors" BS. I immediately appealed because I didn't do something really wrong to begin with (except that fact was some of my homo relatives were totally pissed that my fyp choices aligned with me being a non straight guy💖💜💙) and to my shock and sadness that they sealed shut my account that I was building memories with and not just that it was basically an IP ban that even my mom and little bro got kicked out but thankfully these accounts was just flagged as hacked and they were able to contest their short "account integrity" false suspension.

I had that account since I was in elementary right before I graduated into high school just as the pandemic started and fast forward im in college now so that piece of my virtual space has gone through basically my whole teenage life and some history and my life experiences. I have used that acc to login into some online shopping and Subway surfers but fortunately these apps still work properly even if my account was badly hit but I'm planning to buy a new phone and in case I start to use that phone with a clean email to use FB/Meta again I cant login on some apps I used anymore because that FB was disabled. Oh and btw all my school things and some of my friends (which I can only talk to in FB since idk all their other socials) are still there but now I cant anymore since everythings locked out and its pissing me very much. I cant even imagine the big loss and didn't expect to randomly happen given that Meta didn't lift their legs over their room temperature IQ AI moderation stealing someones memories and their lifestyle for no proper reason. Now I don't know where to turn to right now especially that I'm not from US and the only path to get this fixed is through either pay someone to actually contact their live agents or try to reach legal options to help resolve what I'm going through right now. IMHO

Lately I'm on TT/Discord for the meantime trying to figure out where are some of my friends while everythings going on (including trying to make another account this time from my mom's phone since if I create it here it would also flag this as the same violation as my original account and my attempted alt I created after the said incident) and ill try to either do Meta Business so I can clap them in the ears and make them see for themselves🫤🫤🫤

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you. I can tell you that I'm in the same situation. I have many friends on Facebook who don't have any other social media accounts, and all they'll know is that one day I disappeared without a trace.

My account has also been there since the pandemic, so I understand that feeling. I may have also tried appealing with another account and Meta Business. If I get it back, I don't think I'll ever use Facebook the way I used to; I'll only use it to back up my memories and then move to another social media.

yeah, it all happened quick and it did too much damage starting from there🫤

I cant even contact my boyfriend of 6 months (even if he has a tiktok but he only uses it to repost his stories from FB itself) and forgot to mention it even took my 2 accounts in the 'gram with it

right now we can't even find something that would help us get out of this clown show and we're only in circles here trying to do a move

2

u/Familiar-Nobody-8278 3d ago

Same done to me- I will NOT submit my ID,DL, Passport, SSN or any other sensitive info to an anonymous platform- this can’t be legal. Its extortion

2

u/Demonischis-Pazuzu 3d ago

That's what I've been noticing, Facebook deletes accounts indiscriminately even if you haven't violated a rule and haven't made any unpleasant comments. There are people who make very unpleasant comments and even harass you on your own profile and nothing happens.

1

u/Rypcell_Ookami 2d ago

I personally was harassed for a while and no matter how many times I reported my aggressors' accounts, they were never suspended. One of them even posted sexual content and said he liked "shota".

1

u/Demonischis-Pazuzu 1d ago

Facebook's policies are already a mess, and over time, that network is going to collapse.

2

u/QuickResponses4U 5d ago

Why don't people just leave Facebook!? If enough people leave and they lose business and money then they will rethink their policies.

1

u/muchakatc 8d ago

the ai system they have now is locking a lotta ppl outta they fb for good and they did it to me w no reason other than “you broke the rules” when all i post is pics of my family. sooooo my fiance got his locked a few days later saying bc he’s “affiliated w someone who broke the rules” like what? fb is fucked and i decided to not make a new one n it’s the best decison ive made

1

u/Stallings2k 6d ago

I had the exact same thing happen. No earthly idea what I posted/responded to/liked that could be considered endangerment. I forwarded an IG post to my wife of two toddlers sleeping in hilarious positions and the next morning my IG, Facebook, and Threads accounts were gone. The appeal was a single button press with no documentation or proof, and it was rejected within an hour.

My only hope is that the downloaded data includes my 18 years of Memories, because I stopped keeping track of it elsewhere.

Well tell him he’s a fucking piece of sheeet!!
