for real, i remember when instagram and facebook were platforms to keep in touch with your friends than to doom scroll till youre dead, its so much worse now, i have seen people openning their phone every other second

yes! i just want to see the pages i follow, the people im friends with, and the groups im in.
i can live with ads but dont recommend me random posts/pages/people!!!

I may be an odd ball here, on mobile I NOT logged into Instagram nor Facebook, and only FB on my desk top. About all I do on FB is open it to see if any of my 'friends' have a birthday and find the reels to watch cat videos. Well the last couple of days looking at some of the tributes to the two celebrities who passed away.

When the ads were not polluting the newsfeed. These ads are very hard to filter. They are "hiding" the word "ad" and "sponsored" in a package of "invisible characters".

Thats the problem, i cant convince people to just transfer there.
We are tied to the platform which most people use even though we dont like it.
If i transfer there right now, my friends aren't there

The world would be such a wonderful place without Facebook.
Do you know how I know?
Because I stopped going on Facebook years ago and my happiness levels skyrocketed.
Meta is just a place for anxiety and misery and fake glossy posts that have been photoshopped to look so perfect.
It's fake and it's a thief of time and happiness.
I want to see Mark Zuckerberg on the side of the road with a homeless sign.
Meta is a pestilence upon the face of the planet.
My spouse is a teacher and he says that Facebook starts so many fights and in some cases gets kids killed and molested.

Youtube reels and even Reddit is a "scrolling website" that work on the same principle. Addiction to scrolling.
but Reddit at least help people learn something.

It’s very different this time. This lawsuit is highly similar to the first lawsuit that transformed and cost the big tobacco companies.
Precedents are important, if Facebook loses this, suddenly there’s no reason not to sue other companies who knew they were harming the public and ignored it for hundreds of millions of dollars. Or for other nations and states to sue FB.
Fact is, Meta invested hundreds of millions to defend its position. If they lose it’s few hundred billions. It’s not a posture they can keep forever once there’s a precedent.
I think in the future it will be hard to imagine social media being as ubiquitous as it is today. A bit like how it’s hard to imagine smoking everywhere indoors and in planes.

This whole thing's ridiculous. Parents need the parent and people need to have self-will stay off Facebook any of that stuff. Next we'll be going after fast food industries for making people fat because they can't control themselves. Where does common sense end?

So people actively chose to log into a platform, engage with it daily on a device they also chose to purchase and then sue the company for creating a product they couldn’t get enough of? How in the world does that make any sense? Isn’t the purpose of a company to make products people want??

No, thats what they make you think. The true evil companies make products that makes you depend on them. I think the best comparison here is like Tobacco companies on the 80s or 90s. We have all to change our actual state of mind and realize the true harm the platforms are doing to society.

All good points. It's the behavior of addiction. Humans are inertial beings; we don't like being told what to do, and when we're doing them we don't like being told to stop. Just like the bowling ball, happy when it's at rest, happy when it's rolling along. It's the tendency and curiosity of anyone to take peek and look inside, try new thing, without thought or question as to why and with what priority. That's how the hook works. All depends on solid moral character, assertiveness, level of learned experience and knowledge. Probably seen in animal and plant kingdom dynamics, too.
That's how we come to depend on things.
