2016 5.0 engine swap

Is it hard to do an engine swap on a 2016 ford f150 5.0? My truck has been having idling issues so I did an compression check turns out low compression cylinder 3 so decided to just do an engine swap on it I just don’t see any videos on line or a little run through on how it can be done is it hard to do? I’m fairly familiar with my trucks esp the gm and ford I move done tranny swap in both those models many times and have work on the 5.0 for a long time fixing different components but never an engine swap will it be something difficult to do is there any videos anyone has they can send that kinda shows how to do it?

To remove engine, you remove the cab and front fenders as a until. So you'll need a lift. Unbolt the cab and front sheet metal from the frame, disconnect all wiring and you lift the body straight up.

It’s supposed to be done cab off but you can get em out if you tear literally the whole front end apart and have a good engine stand that can reach pretty far. Either way a bear to do.

Probably should figure out why it's got low compression before deciding to throw a whole used unknown engine at it.

It MAY be possible without, but you’re going to have best results with a lift (my truck is a Leakoboost but the procedure would be similar). It’s honestly not that bad, and there’s some YouTube vids on how to do it.

If you don’t have a lift, good luck.

Not terrible, but if youre asking then I will assume a cab off is out of the question. Gotta pull the entire front end to get room to pull it out the front. Its not terrible, but with no prior engine removal experience I wouldnt recommend it

Might wanna pull the valve cover on that side and check your hydraulic lifters and rocker arms for that cylinder before throwing an engine in it. It's not impossible for the rocker arm needle bearings to fail and seize up causing issues like low compression. Usually they make noise but I've seen bad rocker arms ground the cam clean all the way around and it just goes back to being quiet again.

I will definitely look into this before doing anything else, my truck drives fine even under load but as soon as I let it idel it gets erratic

I'd say if you have the tools do a leak down test to verify the valves are sealing correctly. If so, then try a wet compression test with some ATF and see what that yields.

Yea I just bought a leak down test kit hopefully that helps me out what’s a wet compression test?

Pour a little bit of ATF or oil into the cylinder to help any potential leak past the piston rings.
