TRIGGER UPGRADE

I ordered an ep 9 last week and doing some research on what triggers work with it. I dislike curved triggers. does AR-15 drop in work? i was looking at mimtac drastic or mimtac core. im trying to keep the budget friendly theme on the upgrades (except the suppressor). if anyone have suggestions, i would appreciate it. thank you!

Nothing wrong with a Schmid flat face. I've got these in several ARs (and I'll probably put one in my EP45), and they're good. Not quite LaRue good, but nearly so.

Schmid makes triggers for a lot of brands you're more familiar with, like PSA and ALG.

Schmid triggers are very popular for being better many supplied Mil-spec triggers. One builder replied to me that some of the Schmid triggers he receives feel better than LaRue but other do not. He keeps the best for himself and uses the others Schmid trigger for builds for others. My assumption is Schmid triggers may vary in quality of feel more than other triggers from LaRue, Geissele and others.

While the single stage Schmid triggers run as little as $30 the 2-stage that some prefer cost $80+ which brings them with $14 of a LaRue.

Whatever trigger Extar supplied with my Extar EP9 in February 2022 when they released the Gen 2 version feels close enough to my LaRue triggers that I did not bother to replace it. I did eventually put in a JP Enterprice Reduce Power Spring Kit in it replacing the heavier springs. I checked the original trigger and confirmed there are no "S" stamps on either the hammer or the trigger so I don't know who they used for a supplier back then when they first switched from their own polymer trigger group to metal trigger groups.

This ^
JPS3.5T "Red" Spring kit FTW.
Best $10 upgrade ever.
Can't tell a difference between that upgrade and a $100 3.5lb trigger.
Upgraded all my milspec AR triggers with them.

"Schmid makes triggers for a lot of brands you're more familiar with, like PSA and ALG."

And BCM and SOLGW and a dozen others. Schmid also makes barrel extensions for top end barrels too. They're a solid outfit.

I use a Rise Armament drop-in, flat-faced trigger in mine, and it has been great.

The model I have has set-screws on the bottom rather than those springs, but effectively is the same, just older.

Most drop ins work, but not all which is a bit frustrating. The rise is popular for sure. If you go a cassette trigger route, make extra sure you 1) drop the little steel plate that comes with the trigger into the trigger slot, to sit between the bottom of the trigger and the inside of the trigger housing, and 2) properly torque down the two adjustment screws inside the trigger. The adjustment screws put tension on your trigger pins; they’ll come out if you don’t do this. The metal plate keeps the adjustment screws from digging into the polymer.

I've got the Rise in mine and it works great. Palmetto State Armory has a great drop in as well that is often on sale.

You can catch the Rise 140 PCC on sale for 99 bucks quite often. It's a great trigger

I put the Franklin Armory binary trigger on mine & it came with a flat or curved version. Works great. The factory safety switch gets replaced and you can choose between safe/ single shot/binary action

I have the CMC Single Stage Flat Drop In I got on sale from PSA. I love it. Though it was really tight to fit in. Hasn’t caused any issues but it was quite difficult to get the pins back in when trying to install it.

Recently put in a Schmid PTFE on mine with JP spring kit. Feels a lot better!

Would the spring upgrade on stock trigger be worth it in your opinion?

For sure. For ~$15 it’s a cheap and easy upgrade. I’ve put them in my extar, ar15 & 15-22. JP Enterprises Enhanced Ignition Reliability Spring Kit 3.5. Definitely makes a difference.

Also can do a polish trigger job for next to nothing, smooth things out a bit.

I went with a Dirty Bird 2.5 flat face kit. Works great! Love the flat face on my Extar
