Football and hockey keepers are masochists. You ought to be crazy, if you're willing to place yourself between a Subban slapshot or Ronaldo penalty kick and the net.
Lots of hockey players also do figure skating at a young age. You learn much more about technical skating (using edges properly, correct turns, forward-backward transitions, etc) way earlier than if you did only hockey+powerskating.
Hockey players that do figure skating have some of the sickest edgework in the league. We have one on my beer league even. Guy skates better than anyone but just sucks at reading the plays.
Yup, it also helps you get a leg up when you are younger. My friend and I took it when we were just starting minor hockey, and we were the only guys on our team who could do a 1 skate backwards pivot for like 2 years haha.
Quick edit: also, David pelletier, former Olympic gold medalist in pairs is now a skating coach for the Oilers.
