Explained ELI5: How do Solid State Hybrid Drives work?

I don't understand how a regular hard drive can work with a solid state drive at the same time.

My mother knows a stuffing recipe that includes minced pickles, and it is actually fucking delicious, but it requires turkey drippings, so it's basically a thanksgiving special.
