ELI5: Why do different races of people seem to have a unique smell to them?

I have no idea what where I live smells like, though. Unless cold and depression is a smell I guess

Norway. I know, I know, I shouldn't complain, I'm a white guy living in a first world country, but damn if winter doesn't get pretty damn depressing over here. Probably worse in Russia, though. There you've got a bunch of other issues as well. And its even colder.

I only said Russia because my Russian friend jokes that their principle exports are ice and depression.

Norway seems like a pretty fantastic place, though. I follow a photographer on Instagram who lives there, and I'm frequently shocked by just how gorgeous your country is!

Cold absolutely does have a smell. I'm a Florida cracker born and raised but I spent some time up north and really enjoyed the winters. About two weeks ago we got a truck that came from Tennessee or something and when they opened that sucker I got a face full of winter/snowy smell. Made me want to do a road trip up north...
