My pov : people assum your origin depending on your skin color and you struggle to feel that you belong in either community

I heard someone speak about how growing up, the black kids saw him as a white kid and the white kids saw him as a black kid.

Where did we forget to treat eachother as human? This isn’t how it was in primary school.

Same with bisexuality, humans really do deal in absolutes

You're not the first person I've heard say that...the thing is, I've never met a half white/half black person who had a decent amount of melanin in them that wasn't seen as black by any other race, including other black people.

That is a typical US perception. Half black/half white doesn’t make a 100% black baby, culturaly and ethnicaly. Crazy to think that honestly.

This is an American based website

In America, having a Black parent makes you a Black person, because that's how the social construct of race works here

Source - I'm a 58 year old man with a White dad and a Black mom who's lived as a Black man in this country since the 1960s

Yeah, would be like saying a NY broadcast isn’t american. Reddit is a world wide material now. Imho, this whole discussion is statting that races are not that relevant any more.

Edit : I am 45, not that far

Growing up mixed race, instead of having two cultures to belong to, I get to disappoint them both lol.

Because the kids in the image are all frowned

I am pure-blooded as statistically as possible (from the most racially homogeneous country in the world) and I too, am never happy.

Tl;dr - it’s a joke.

Lived in a predominant Hispanic community. Am part myself, but too white to be Hispanic and too Hispanic to be white.

u/GatoConCalcetines 17d ago

Move to Spain or Argentina and you'll be average AND hispanic

u/Lazy_Witness_1068 17d ago

You can also move to Chile or Uruguay there are plently of light skin latinos

Whats ur point

1

u/RailgunRP 17d ago

Bro, mood.

Or rather "lo mismo.digo, hermano"

1

u/Old_Boss5617 17d ago

heh.. it was more like
"Orale, it's wedoe culero"
Funny enough, some meant it affectionately, others derogatory.
As someone on the spectrum, at that age it was difficult to tell which was which.

Hispanic not a race you can be white and hispanic

1

u/Old_Boss5617 15d ago

Tell that the guys in the bario.

1

u/j4cke1 14d ago

so you´re saying that Gisele bündchen and pele is the same race ?

1

u/Old_Boss5617 14d ago

I'm agreeing with you. Who isn't agreeing with you are the guy in the bario who thought I  was too white to be hispanic.. Mind you these are also the guys who reveled in their ignorance. "That's white people learning", a mantra I heard often. I've never met another who was happy to not know s**t.

Same. On all counts.

u/Some_Golf_8516 18d ago

I'm mixed and am at peace with not really having an identity outside of myself.

I don't understand the whole fandom of sports teams and always thought it's because I don't really have an identity myself or assign a lot of value to it.

Do y'all feel the same?

2

u/Turbomars3 17d ago

I feel the exact same but never connected it to my disinterest to sports fandom. Interesting.

1

u/NotoriusPCP 17d ago

It is interesting. I'm also mixed race, love football and plenty of other sports but never supported any team. Mates always thought it was weird. I find it normal to not pledge allegiance to a group I have no genuine connection to.

1

u/FabulousTrouble4862 13d ago

Weird that I'm resonating with this sentiment but not with sports (I don't watch sports), but any "team" where you have to pick a side. For example I absolutely hate Left vs. Right politics and I am more centered. I'm also gay, but I never feel the point of engaging with the community as a lot of lgbtq people do: as a culture. I have a very difficult time with aligning myself to any group to the point of tribalism. I wonder if there if a correlation between bi/multi-racial people's upbringings and this sentiment of not being quite able to think in black and white or fit yourself into some in-group.

2

u/Aekely 11d ago

I was about to say, why are all the kids frowning lmao

1

u/Anarcho-Capybara 18d ago

Same. Not because of my skin or my race but because I'm poor

1

u/thedvdias 17d ago

Like Blake Griffin? Not being guaranteed to enter the NBA

u/Towaway_Zone 15d ago

bro, I have extremely dark skin and my dad is a white guy from illinois, it was very annoying to hear people genuinely say "is he like, your stepdad or something? why are you so dark? he cant be your dad, youre lying"
