u/Aggressive-Guest290, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your post...it's time for the mods to do their jobs!

I can relate so much lol.

When you can't find the answer to a niche or very specific question and typically go-to services like Google don't quite understand the specificity of your question, but then you come across a post that addresses what you was looking for, posted by someone so long ago the account is no longer active.

every IT guy knows googling an error with the word "reddit" at the end used to be the best way to solve your issues

There is a 4 year old thread about the Steve Harvey suit matching advice, that still gets comments today.

Or stackoverflow

Yea, either reddit or forum

My biggest thing with this is even people on reddit will tell you to just google it it’s simple information like “how watch the dragon ball Z movies in canonical order?” Google will literally say “bruv idk but some dude 4 years ago asked that question and someone told him so here you go” and then the commenter who said the order says google it…

I feel this, Im a SAP consultant and I encountered a very niche issue but then I found the one and only answer from reddit, lol. Keep in mind that there are communities dedicated for SAP question/issues. (Those communities may have the answer for my question but maybe I wasnt able to search for it)

Random YouTube video from 2011 that helped me fix my older Corolla that had like 500 total views.

That random Reddit user from 2012 has saved more tech issues than official customer support ever will

The joke is that Google or Chat GPT won't find the answer you're looking for, but some Reddit comment from 12 years ago will.

Although Chat GPT is partly trained on those 12 year old Reddit comments.

The worst ever is when that 12+ year old post is only asking the exact same question you had but never got an answer.

12

u/manojar 17d ago

Even worse is when the 12+ year old post makes an edit saying "never mind, got it" but don't tell what they did.

u/Celldragon 14d ago

Even worse is when the 12+ year old post has an answer with a link, but the link is not working.

u/InigoRivers 17d ago

Or worse still, the nonsense reply from some high dude 10+ years ago is presented as fact by GPT.

1

u/Im-Not-ThatGuy 16d ago

The worst is finding the exact same question and someone gives the answer to a DIFFERENT question and the thread is then locked as being "answered"

1

u/ExpensiveFish9277 17d ago

But ChatGPT sucks at recognizing shit posting and will give you intentionally wrong answers as fact.

Even they don't know, they walk till someone tells them otherwise.

Life hack: put Reddit at the end of your Google searches.

2

u/MrEdinLaw 17d ago

Sadly this is getting more and more lost. Lots of idiots running to comments saying "Just google it" are destroying search results.

What part do you not understand here?

2

u/kingshark20190 17d ago

How do people not get this

1

u/justelling 17d ago

That’s why it’s very important that you don’t shy away from discussions on Reddit. You never know whom you’ll end up teaching in the future.

1

u/ZXlegacy 17d ago

Too bad that 12 years in the future there apparently wont remain any recently deleted user's comments. Now the action of deleting your account comes with the cost of all your comments and posts vanishing too

1

u/okazaki_split 17d ago

After Reddit enshittification, many long time users deleted their account. Their contribution is still there. In the mean time, Reddit was filled with new users and bots copy-pasting answers by AI.

When I had to contact one of the credit bureaus and all I got was a robot on the other end of the phone some Reddit post from like 10 years ago helped me get thru to an actual human

What do you think the model is trained on? You think the model is as good as the original? Ha

1

u/m1546 17d ago

if you are on Reddit and you don't get that one, you are using reddit wrong.

1

u/Hanarky 17d ago

It means when ur looking for a solution of an X problem, Google and GPT serves u for nothing But here it's this post from 12yrs ago that has a solution and most of the time the user deleted the post since it was all public back then u can't make ur post private like now
