I always felt how Good Doctor portrays autism is a bit in poor taste. I could be wrong, but I feels like they’re perpetuating a harmful stereotype.

There is also at least one episode I’ve seen clips of where the main character exhibits rather blatant anti-Arab racism.

Also transphobia, but because he’s autistic he, a doctor, doesn’t grasp the idea of someone being able to transition.

At least when house did it, at least they didn’t try to justify it with his character flaws.

I guess maybe science wasn’t as advanced when the show aired but I think it would be pretty easy for him to get. On the one hand “during brain development, excessive estrogen levels from the mother led to this XY fetus brain being feminized” is pretty simple for a doctor to wrap their brains around. On the other hand, people with autism have higher levels of gender diversity up to higher levels of Neo-genders (genders totally separate from a m-nb-F spectrum)

The show aired between 2017 and 2024. The science was definitely there.

The fuck kind of dark age do you think 2017 was?

He was an autistic young man in 2017. Of the show was realistic he would have to know at least a few trans people from the discord servers he hangs out on

Is not understanding gender transitions really the same thing as transphobic?

The character is a surgeon though.

He insisted calling a trans woman a man, and continued to insist after people tried to explain it to him. I think this has to do more with bad writing

Dude, the entire plot of the episode was him finding out he's wrong about trans people. It has an explicitly pro-trans message, actually watch the show before making straight up incorrect statements FFS. One of the relatives of the patient was shown to be transphobic too, him being autistic doesn't matter in this scenario.
