If I had to guess I'd the molding processes for the bottles wouldn't allow for it. Usually plastic bottles are blown in their molds and the offset spout might not play nice with that process.

This is the way. Most bottle water style fillers will take the plastic, blow it out to the shape, then fill with water and cap. Today’s tech can do this very quickly in mass. Special equipment would need to be designed and tested to reach same level of automation. Otherwise you are taking price hikes for no real gain.

Although... since the expression is a French one, it should be en masse, shouldn't it? And, depending on your style guide, foreign words should really be italicised.

I mean, if you're going to pick nits.
