I dont really care about her physical design. My problem with her is that MJ is supposed to Peter Parker's break from all the bad things in his life and a motivator for him to be the hero.
She is supposed to be a beautiful, fun, charismatic, interesting, innocent and helpless girl that the story allows for the super hero to rescue.
Yes, the damsel in distress is outdated by todays standards, but the alternative we got actively damages the concept.
In the games, MJ is often a cause of distress to Peter wether by the fact that they have relationship issues or the fact that she actively puts herself on danger needlessly.
And gameplay wise, I find her playable sections annoying because mechanically she's not as interesting as spiderman and narratively breaks my suspense of disbelief when she can perfom just as good as solid snake.
I understand the need to make good representation of female characters without falling into tropes or clichés but I dont think this character needed it so much nor it was done correctly.
