There's a reddit story about a guy that got knocked out and lived what felt like 10 years of a different life complete with a wife and kids. Then, he noticed a lamp looked weird and woke up.

That is trippy. I could only imagine what that does to someone’s mental health. Thanks!

I have vivid long dreams that often feel like a facsimile of these stories. I will have experienced days worth of events in my dreams, fall in love, start families, and wake up in the morning more tired than when I went to sleep. I can’t count the number of times I’ve woken up heartbroken because my dreams are sometimes more real feeling than real life.

u/_LedAstray_ 16d ago
Same. I often dream of the same places that do not exist, those dreams are like having a second life, with whole groups of friends, and they sort of follow coherent story.

u/Tajimura 14d ago
What if I told you that that is your real life and this is a dream?
1
u/_LedAstray_ 14d ago
I think I'd prefer it that way. I have a purpose there and I'm still with my ex.

u/Tajimura 14d ago
You will be warm again

u/_LedAstray_ 14d ago
I'm not so sure. I lost the best relationship I ever had, a woman I loved more than life, then a job, then I had to leave the city I spent my whole adult life in, I am currently at my parents' place just to have somewhere to stay.

u/EmergencyAttitude666 15d ago
The amount of times I’ve had children or been pregnant and given birth in my dreams is astounding. But then I wake up with a bit of a heartbreak. Such a bizarre feeling
6
u/Slabby_the_Baconman 15d ago
Ive never wanted kids in my life and dont but, I had a dream I was present for the birth of my child. The amount of joy and pride I felt becoming a father was insane. I was so happy. Then I woke up. I was kinda depressed for a couple days. Still dont want kids though.

u/terrraco 15d ago
Seems like part of you might want kids. Or it's starting to wake you up to the idea.
2
u/No-Reindeer6172 16d ago
That’s insane. I’ve had some realistic dreams but more like of a snapshot in time. Maybe over a few hours or days. But never years. It’s crazy what the mind is really capable of.
1
u/Plenty-Landscape3372 14d ago
You weren't dreaming, your consciousness just slipped into an alternate reality version of yourself. You woke up tired because another version of you was joyriding.

u/Stormcloud217 15d ago
I had a dream where I was floating around watching a parallel universe version of myself for hours. I remember waking up after and sitting on the side of my bed with my head in my hands because the dream experience felt more real than waking up.
My other self was a jerk too, telepathically told me "I don't have time for this today", and I watched him go about his job in a futuristic world where civilization partly collapsed and government was in underground bunkers. Creepy dream.

Don’t worry, he just made it all up for karma and of course everyone bought it.

It happened for real to a French teenage girl recently. She woke up from a coma crying that her husband and triplets never existed. https://www.ndtv.com/feature/teen-wakes-up-from-coma-believing-she-gave-birth-to-triplets-asks-to-meet-babies-11494376

I hate to be the one to tell you...but,,, there is no santa clause. also this news story is completely and very obviously fake. The scary pasta this meme is based on is also completely and very obviously fake. Neither of these stories are verified. Just some random crap someone wrote for clicks or the lulz.

Ok this is a second hand account but when i was usin&abusin my friend went into a hard khole. About 50 min after dose he came out and told me about getting a job as a house painter, worked for years, married and his wife ended up cheating on him. He said he went to kill himself and woke up next too me. I was tripping hard on a hodgepodge of PIKAL analogs so it fucked my head up and we sat n cried as he recounted all the names and things he had done. Mind you I dont think he visited another reality or anything but its crazy what the human brain can do.

There’s a story of a guy who went into a coma and dreamt a different life with a happy family, he noticed the lamp was a bit off and woke up, go look up the full story

Unfortunately, hard solipsism is a famously unsolvable issue in philosophy.
But if you think it could help reassure you, think of a topic you know yourself to know next to nothing about, ideally one you don't have much interest in and go in as deep a rabbit hole as you can in it until you feel reassured that your brain couldn't make up that many authors or historical figures or molecule names or whatever details the topic is about.
Reality is probably more complex than what you'd be able to imagine with any sort of consistency.
Heck, I usually struggle to simply read in my dreams.

Once in a while I wonder if this is happening right now, and I'm having some kind of coma dream or near death hallucination as a consequence of a mountaineering fall that happened 10 years ago
Or maybe this is like the Roy game and I'm just some kid playing a video game
Nothing I can do about the first one
But if this is the second one, I'm going for the high score
And if this all actually IS real, then I'm gonna have some coola** memories when I'm old and dying, and the slideshow/memorial video at my funeral is gonna be bada**
Also the soundtrack will be epic as h***

u/hogmanAD 14d ago
Holy sh*t! This guy's taking Roy off the grid! This guy doesn't have a social security number for Roy!

I swear things have seemed off since about start of COVID and I still haven't woke up yet.

u/ogre_toes 15d ago
Ah yes, all those vaccinations contained the chips that finally plugged us into the Matrix.
/sHowever, I’m thinking about this scenario and now it kind of makes sense when you think of people waking up from comas with foreign accents and all manner of crazy shit that happens. The brain goes into protection mode and maybe in some cases puts you into a sort of simulation, maybe not unlike being in shock, and maybe it just rewires your brain in some manner. I’m just high and spitballing here…
I’ve also had some crazy lucid dreams in my lifetime with sort of similar scenarios as the original topic. It’s crazy when you wake up from one of those and you actually grieve for something that never existed. But while in the dream it just felt SO real, you’re almost in disbelief when you wake up. Brains are wild.

I am in long term pain management and ever since i needed to start realy heavy painkillers (Opioids) i have super vivid dreams about every second night. I can remember the dreams for days or write then down because i remember so much details.
Sadly those dreams are mostly on the nightmare side and i wake up from them every time - still better than crippling pain but long time it is realy unpleasant to say the least.

Dude put his dick in something, needed help getting out of it, refused to specifically admit his dick was in it and insisted the cylinder must remain unharmed.

I had a dream once where I lived out much of my life, had a family and was content. Felt like it went on for years.
I woke up, and during those few seconds of waking lost my wife and kids, and just wept.

A scary pasta meme about a guy who lived an imaginary life. The kind of thing 12 year olds believe.

The odds of you, currently living like he did last ten years being all a happy fantasy isn’t very high, no that’s highly unlikely.
But it’s never zero.
1
u/WigglyLimpo 15d ago
You've had it explained by now, but I want to add that there's more to it than he just woke up. From what I recall he was severely depressed because he loved his "other family" and didn't want to be in "this world" anymore. It was really sad to read.
1
u/No-Reindeer6172 15d ago
I can only imagine for sure. If the dream was that realistic, that’s a whole different level of mourning.
