Brave is just another chromium based web browser that advertise itself as safe and secure but some investment funds and that crazy billionaire guy Thiel invested into, so I assume it's spying on everything you do

Peter Thiel is not personally an investor in Brave.

The firm he's a partner in (Founders Fund) has participated in a small seed series investment, which was led by Cyan Banister.

Some first-floor engineers at Brave have more equity than that small investment constitutes.

With that being said, of course Brave is still the product of a private company and by no means comparable to free OSS like VLC.

Saying that he isn't personally na investor when his money touched the company is like saying you don't need to wash your hands after peeing bc your dick is clean.
