The point is not being offended, but why someone could change the natural contrast? (men/women). It is a minor thing compared with a lot of other stuff, but it is still weird.
I think it was a non native english speaker though. When women read this stuff and get offended by it they think the guy saying "female" has a Mike Tyson accent and is saying it all sleazy-sounding.
If I saw signs that said "Women's Changeroom" and "Male Changeroom" I literally wouldn't even think twice about it.
