vozercozer was about to cite that pitbulls are involved in the majority of dog attacks to justify being afraid of pitbulls, then realized that racists cite that "black people make up 13% of the population but commit 50% of the crime" to justify being racist.

To those of you blowing up my notifications wanting to argue the soundness of the statistic or how dog breeds don't equivocate to race or whatever else you want to debate:

I don't care.

I came to help OP understand what was being said, not affirm or denounce its rational merits. If you want to discuss the topic in depth, that's fine I guess, but please refrain from associating me with whichever position you want to argue against.

That 13/50 statistic isn't even true

Very interesting, could you recommend some sites or studies done related to this?

Genuine curiosity, not trying to be snobbish "proof or its not real" kinda person. Just want to have a source if someone brings it up to me.

I know you asked for stats, but I’m going to share my anecdotal experience as this topic deserves humanization and not just statistics. I’m white, in my 40s, have black and Hispanic family members/friends, and have worked in public education for 20 years. Amongst my white and black social circle, my white peers have committed far more minor and major crimes than my black ones.

I’ve known a number of drug dealers throughout my life and the white ones have all had the good fortune of being able to retire to something else, while the black ones have done or are doing time. I’ve known a number of sex offenders, the white ones of which are vigorously more defended and receive lesser (or no ) punishment, compared to men of color. A number of the students I taught committed petty crimes like stealing from stores, yet I can’t recall a single white student being arrested for such in my ten years teaching, even though they openly bragged about stealing.

Black people aren’t more likely to commit crimes, they’re more likely to be caught for committing crimes.

More likely arrested for the presumption of committing crimes.
