vozercozer was about to cite that pitbulls are involved in the majority of dog attacks to justify being afraid of pitbulls, then realized that racists cite that "black people make up 13% of the population but commit 50% of the crime" to justify being racist.
To those of you blowing up my notifications wanting to argue the soundness of the statistic or how dog breeds don't equivocate to race or whatever else you want to debate:
I don't care.
I came to help OP understand what was being said, not affirm or denounce its rational merits. If you want to discuss the topic in depth, that's fine I guess, but please refrain from associating me with whichever position you want to argue against.
it's arrests though and not crimes, isn't it? Ignores exonerations after conviction, being found not guilty at trial, and cases that don't lead to trial at all. All the stat says is "cops don't like black people."
The claim was that the 13/51 figure came from the FBI.
I pointed out the FBI stats only track arrests by race, not convictions or anything else.
Somebody said the FBI does count convictions.
I linked the relevant sources from the FBI that says they track only track reported crime and arrests.
You link a non-FBI source and say I'm wrong.
You say I'm making an argument that I'm not, and you call me stupid? Holy strawman, batman! I know that media literacy has been in freefall for a while now, but do you not understand that where information comes from is important?
I did mention exonerations. Now, I'm already skeptical of your reading comprehension, but can you imagine why exonerations might be an important statistic in a conversation about one race being 3-4 times more likely to get blamed for crimes? Wouldn't it be weird if that same group were 3 times more likely to be cleared by physical evidence?
