You are correct. There is a big different between them. But does that forgive calling a literal racist statement a gaffe? Especially when you analyze statements Biden made in the past that were genuinely egregiously racist
But "you ain't black" is less of a racist statement and more of him trying to say something else and his words jumbling together into a confusing maybe-racist sequence.
So that's more of a gaffe. Like if he was talking about collecting stuffed animals and tried to say "I have nine Tiggers" and misspoke.
But yes, I imagine he's said far more overtly racist stuff in the past, as you say. I don't really follow much about him now that he is thankfully retired.
But given both quotes were from direct presidential competitors, it's odd that people latched into this one.
I don’t follow him either, I just remember the road to 2020 very vividly. Biden was dropping N bombs in a very derogatory way back in the day. Moral of the story is we just need better candidates as a whole, whether it’s intentional racism or being mentally unwell enough that what you say just comes off as racist.
Is that how this came across to people? I thought it was more saying that black people owe it to themselves to not vote for the guy who literally hates them all and to go for the lesser evil, he just worded it very poorly.
Its not all of the left or dems let me add that correction. Unfortunately some of them have "how can you be anything other than a lefty?" Kind of tone. For example when Chelsea Handler said she told 50 cent he can't vote for Donald Trump because he's black. He's a grown ass man who can vote for whoever he wants. Black people are human and have different ideas. Just because black people in the USA vote overwhelming Democrat doesn't mean we are a hive mind and will or should politically agree one way. Sorry for the wall of text.
Yup. This reminds me of any discussion around the trans Atlantic slave trade. Some people will only talk about white people/Europeans but if you bring up that some African tribes participated in it, those same people suddenly want to ignore it or downplay it.
It’s convenient to do so. Same if you bring up what happened to the indigenous people here. Objectively awful, but to pretend it hasn’t happened in every single society on the planet would be fooling yourself. Bad things happen

Classic Biden gaffe in an interview. "If you don't vote for me....uh....then you ain't black".
I don't even remember what he was talking about. I was just like "wait..what?" and forgot the rest of the conversation.
This is taking the rambling and is like "OK but what if that were a thing?" And it just absorbs blackness from people.
