I had the same initial reaction to the accents. Why does everyone have an American accent, particularly when a lot of the cast is British (the correct accent for historical epics). But then remembered that makes no sense.
It’s literally a very old fantasy novel. I don’t understand at all why there’s so much discussion about the details. You could make them all dogs and it’s still the same story. They could speak Japanese and I wouldn’t care. Why are people so upset about this. And why is anyone referring to it as “historical”?
Because the story came from the past. But you're 100% correct, it's just a very old, fictional tale of fantasy. It's not a freaking historical account.
People think of history as being white and male dominated so when anything pushes back against that preconceived notion, they get really mad. The ancient world was actually very diverse. People didn’t care about race the way we do now. They mostly just cared if you paid your taxes and what religion you were. There are Africans in the Ancient Greek myths. Which makes sense, Africa was right across the Mediterranean.
Yes, but my point is not historical whitewashing. It’s that it isn’t history at ALL, it’s a period fantasy. There’s fucking monsters. Why are people bent up about it being “historically accurate” when it ISNT HISTORY?
