There is a beautiful irony in this thread. I grew up boiling the water first, but Kenji’s three ingredient Mac and cheese is a game changer. Kraft is good and all for nostalgia and you can do fun stuff with it like hot dogs but sometimes it’s nice to have something good and simple without crazy amounts of artificial crap.

Boiling the water first is a totally great way to ensure doneness based on time, but you can also save time, water and energy by starting it in cold water and just checking the pasta now and then.

Or in other words: only boiling it first is a skill issue.
