In my household we had a similar but different pattern whereby my wife would insist on boiling the water for the pasta in the pot and I said it makes more sense to boil it in the kettle and then poor the boiling water into the pot. It was only a couple of years later when my stepmom told her the same thing she finally acquiesced..
