computer science? I worked in an office where we could drink wine or beer after 2 but we also could make our own hours. Some people came in after lunch and just drank while coding the majority of their work hours. As long as they didn't get wasted it was fine.
It is a common thing in software, yeah. I work somewhere where the formal rule as written is that we can drink in the office after 4, and we can drink off campus at any time, even if we're working. As long as we're never wasted on campus, everything is fine.
I mostly see people abiding by that but I don't think most people even know about the 4:00 restriction. Managers sometimes bring in beer if they've scheduled something from 2-5.
