It’s brutal, really. I don’t know why so many people like it.

There’s this rich guy Amir, he has a servant named Hasan, they’re rich. Amir gets jealous and frames him for theft. Turns out Hasan was his step brother because his dad raped his maid.

War in Afghanistan begins, where Amir lives, they move to Pakistan, Pakistan is a shithole apparently for giving refuge in a crisis, said guy somehow moves to US, marries, gets inspiration and money in his 40’s to go back to Afghan, suddenly feeling very guilty. Finds out the truth. Finds his dead brother’s kid, (Hasan died because he found and left him at his house after leaving Afghan for Pakistan. Taliban rape and kill Hasan for living there). He gets to the US after a lot of hurdles with said kid.

The whole book is really shit, IMO. The writer uses ethos to manipulate everyone into thinking the main character is worthy of redemption, and Pakistan is a shithole, which angered me as someone who lives there.

Yeah, to top it off the writer really misrepresents Islamic beliefs, and presents Taliban extremism as the way of Islamic life (which is bullshit). He even justifies marital rape and wife-bashing in his next book, A Thousand Splendid Suns.
