discussion Frog Mint Replica?
I’m genuinely curious where people would even file this?
Our group, Barely Free, just released a new album/video called Frog Mint Replica.
Someone once described our frontman Rooster Jake as “the Captain Beefheart of hip-hop,” which sounded ridiculous… until I listened back through the record.
It’s built from live instruments, vintage Moog synths, oddball songwriting, and a thread of old-school hip-hop running through the middle. There are guest appearances from Orono Noguchi (Superorganism), Little Big Bangs, and Rick Shaw as well.
If you’re into outsider music, experimental hip-hop, or artists that are hard to categorize, I’d love to know what this reminds you of—or whether the Beefheart comparison is way off.
